Akio Suzuki (鈴木昭男) is a japanese artist born in North Korean Pyongyang (1941). At the age of four he moved to Japan, to a town called Aichi. During the 60's ,he began his "self-study events"; for four years he worked as a sound researcher, studying the sound qualities of places in nature and architectural spaces. He investigates places by constructing a topography of sound based on the principle of call and echo.
Was born in Milan, Italy in 1973. Composer, saxophonist and sound artist. Almost all his work in sound art has been based on the musicality of speech, on investigating the sonic qualities of interactions, misunderstanding, and translation. So far, he produced pieces for radio, electro-acoustic compositions, and pieces for ensemble and installations. His background and parallel present is that of being a soprano sax player in improvised and experimental music contexts.
Aranis is a Flemish quintet, playing music across the borders of classical, folk and (post)rock. Seaworthy refers to at least two different groups/projects : 1. Rovo is a psychedelic rock-jazz band founded in 1996 in Tokyo by former Boredoms guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto (山本精一), electric violinist Yuji Katsui (勝井祐二), and synthesizer/effects technician Tatsuki Masuko (益子樹), with Jin Harada (原田仁) on bass guitar, Hiroshi Nakanishi (中西宏司) on synths, and featuring two drummers/percussionists, the prolific Yasuhiro Yoshigaki (芳垣安洋) (of legendary improv noise group Ground-Zero) and Yoichi Okabe (岡部洋一).
Kan Mikami (三上寛) takes much of his inspiration from the school of singer/songwriters and blues vocalists. From the rural district of Tsugaru, Mikami's parched voice and plaintive electric guitar (sometimes the only backing) reveals the true spirit of the folkish sad blues, even though he sings in Japanese. Of course, comparisons to Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf are just as far from the truth as Bertolt Brecht or Jacques Brel, but the guitarist weaves elements of all three to create an undeniably unique style.
