Mister Lies

Mister Lies is the product of dorm-room insomnia, the development of a family of friends in a city of strangers under altered states and the feeling of homesickness for places where one only feels homesick. It is also the operational alias for a 20-year-old producer, multi-instrumentalist and feral child who was raised by wolves in the forests of a Connecticut suburb. Somewhere down the road, those winds whisked him away and dropped him off in Chicago.

Dmitriy Chistov is likely to be one of the most prolific post-industrial artists specializing in various ambient music in Russia. Hum and maw are closer to drone ambient, Sphogha and Nigredo - to noise ambient. Mikosterion is a one-off project dedicated to an ideal trip after the consumption of certain mushrooms. There are three distinctive features of all of his projects: 1) no digitally produced sounds, only analog ones; 2) very strong, tenacious atmosphere (no, not in the “catchy” sense); 3) classy packages.

Stars of the Lid

Stars of the Lid are a band specializing in drone-based ambient music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their music largely consists of beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs.

Andrew Chalk has been active since 1985 as Ferial Confine and worked with many associates over the years, such as David Jackman (Organum), Vortex Campaign, The New Blockaders, Darren Tate (Ora), Giancarlo Toniutti, Jonathan Coleclough, Robin Barnes (Isolde), Brendan Walls and Christoph Heemann (Mirror). Sleep Research Facility

Sleep Research Facility (sometimes abbreviated to SR_F or SRF) is a dark ambient artist from Glasgow, Scotland, specialising in sleep-conducive beatless ambient music which is both artistic as well as functional. Sleep Research Facility consists of the single band member Kevin Doherty. His music usually contains no rhythmic elements (one exception is "2.5" on Dead Weather Machine), but instead relies on spacious, extended, richly-textured sounds.
