Arto Lindsay

Arto Lindsay (born May 28, 1953, Richmond, Virginia) is an American , , record and . He's probably best known as a founding member of the influential band DNA, though his work after DNA has been quite prolific. He has a distinctive soft voice and an often noisy, self-taught guitar style comprised almost entirely of extended techniques, described by Brian Olewnick "studiedly naïve ... sounding like the bastard child of Derek Bailey"; his guitar work is contrasted frequently with gentler, sensuous Brazilian music themes.

Gas

Several artists have released recordings under the name of GAS: two electronic music composers, Wolfgang Voigt and Mat Jarvis, furthermore a Japanese hardcore band, and lastly a rock-band from Germany. 1) Wolfgang Voigt of Kompakt Records, Cologne, who created hypnotic, bass-driven ambient/minimal techno on the German label Mille Plateaux. Says Voigt of his music: '(This is) music without beginning and without end, cushioned contours that fall softly into the space that seem to overrule temporal schemes.

Jasmin

With a name as elusive as the melodies that just hint in order to vanish, jasmin’s songs are revealing the possibilities of a minimal guitar trio. Sometimes jointly, sometimes in fierce competition, guitar, bass, drums and minimal electronics are spinning enticing textures. Those pleadings against the imperative of lyrics, you don’t have to call them post rock if you don’t want to. The deliberation annihilates itself by its sheer sustainability: On stage the guitarist frequently collides with the solid wall of bass and drums, disrupting it in feedback fever.

Spaceheads

UK duo Spaceheads have released 7 albums on such labels as Merge, BiP_HOp, Pandemonium Rdz. Andy Diagram (trumpet) and Richard Harrison (drums), take their unique sound, based on live trumpet loops, drums and electronics, to greater sonic extremes.
Lazy grooves and thick harmonised trumpet chords; sleazy deep beat brass and crushed up metallic drumbeats. Spaceheads mix the raw emotional sound of breath with the banging of wood on skin, and push it through the blips, crackle and distortion of pixelated electronic noise.

Padang Food Tigers

UK duo consisting of S. A. Grady and S. J. Lewis (two thirds of Rameses III), based in the London area, Padang Food Tigers offers here a debut release as a short ep of three instrumental tracks for a total length just below the ten minutes mark. Soft, bucolic, instrumental, intimate, folk, using banjo, piano, organ and bells, including nature field recordings, Padang Food Tigers build delicate atmospheres with a special attention towards the tiny detail. The beauty of their compositions and textures is simply disarming.

Stars of the Lid

Stars of the Lid are a band specializing in -based music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their music largely consists of beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs.
