Back in the late '80s, Melbourne's Andrew Curtis and Philip Samartzis collaborated in the aurally volatile project simply called Gum. With little expertise or training, the two gathered up what objects they were familiar with, in particular thrift store turntables and soiled records. Eschewing their original attraction to the giants of Industrial Culture, Gum quickly developed an aesthetic privileging the caustic rupture of skipping records and smoldering surface noise, predating the current avant-turntablist aficionados like Philip Jeck, Janek Schaefer, and Otomo Yoshihide.

OVO is a name shared by the italian noise group led by singer Stefania Pedretti and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Dorella, a portuguese indie-pop group, an electronic/experimental group from California, and polish rock band. The latter puts at least as much effort into the packaging of their albums as in the music itself, which is very detailed and precise. Two are multiple artists with this name: 1) Mushy is a solo experimental electronic project based in Rome, Italy. Among the head figures of the industrial music scene renewal, Valentina Fanigliulo uses the medium of musical expression in order to produce soundscapes which open the door to strangely nightmarish illuminations. The sound architecture is a mixture of loops, burgeoning analog drones, tempestuous noises, spectral chants which rise at the surface.
