Avant-Garde

Lionel Marchetti

Lionel Marchetti was born in France in 1967. His interest in music resides in the qualities of sound. He is one of a handful of artists who in the mid-to-late 1990s took electroacoustic music out of academic studios and into the free improvisation ring. A scholar who worked at the CFMI (Lyon) and GRM (Paris) studios and published a book on acousmatic composer Michel Chion, Marchetti developed a set-up of microphones and loudspeakers he uses on stage along with tape recorders, prepared CDs, motors and radios.

These Are Powers

These Are Powers are known for the dissonance of their early recordings, a cacophony of rhythms and industrial/electronic experiments that recalled Throbbing Gristle one moment, DNA the next. Their most recent album, "All Aboard Future", was released in February 2009. Exotic, abstract, hand-crafted sounds--made, found and electronically born. Some wail from Pat Noecker's prepared bass; others stem from the idiosyncratic vocal and guitar style of Anna Barie.

The Monolith Deathcult

The year is 2013...

The Old Continent is on the brink of total collapse. After two pyrrhic victories the Fifth French Republic groans under the yoke of Berlin at long last, making once proud France the 17th state of Germany. To secure some hope for a sixth French Republic, the French music label Season of Mist has shown remarkable vigour and artistic courage to forge an alliance with the only triple-A rated band in Europe: The Monolith Deathcult (TMDC).

Christian Marclay

Christian Marclay is a DJ, VJ, visual artist, audio artist and turntablist. He is the first non-rap DJ to make an art form out of the turntable, treating the instrument as a means to rip songs apart, not bridge them together. A long-time associate of Downtown improv figures John Zorn, Elliott Sharp...

Red Rum

St Petersburg-based band Red Rum creates an inventive kind of music that would be easiest categorized as experimental rock. This vague description in Red Rum’s case includes bits of alternative rock, psychedelic breaks, the more adventurous side of indie, electronics and some quirky/surreal elements that seem to come from no outside influence. Formed in 2004, the band consists of 3 members: Ndk (vocals/guitar/electronics), Eugene Byrd (bass) and Gorsky (drums). Their studio recordings including 4 EPs and one album feature Red Rum’s 2004-2010 live lineup.

Parker is one of few jazz bassists who regularly plays arco.
