Weekend

At least five bands have used this name: 1. Weekend is a punk/shoegaze/psychedelic band from San Francisco, CA. Their debut 10" was released on Mexican Summer records in December 2009 to favorable reviews. No Pain in Pop – “Stunning, doomed, darkness…” Fader Magazine – “…what happens if No Age traded in good vibes and instead got real angry from the depths of a muffled cavern. It’s about four minutes of build up, windy moans and plodding drums giving way to a balls to the wall freakout as the whole song collapses on itself.”

Steve Lamaq's 'One to Watch' 2009 “Swirling strings danced around in the mix, the orchestral edge adding to the theatricality of the singer’s falsetto - hinting at a band with the potential to redefine the parameters of epic song-writing.”

Anniversary Circle

ANNIVERSARY CIRCLE sounds like LYCIA would jam with KILLING JOKE
somewhere in the 90s, in a town called Twin Peaks.
Alternative / goth / post punk, somwhere between the pulsating vibes of
Joy Division / Killing Joke, the deep melancholy of Lycia represented by
ethereal female vocals and the gloom of Bauhaus.
About the debut album Saturated Feathers (2010)
You’re born, you live and you die in your beds. On each occasion there is cause for celebration or mourning.

The Pinecone Kids

The Pinecone Kids were born this year and with downs syndrome. As a result they go around asking people if they would like to buy pinecones. Straight outta east London gutters they play gritty grungey noisy madness, but also soft soothing sonnets of ambience. Essentially, the Pinecone Kids are a clan, a consortium, and they will infect you with their Pinecone insanity. The Pinecone Kids on Soundcloud

Stars of the Lid

Stars of the Lid are a band specializing in -based music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their music largely consists of beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs.

Cousins

1) A Halifax, Nova Scotia born quartet featuring the songs of Aaron Mangle, and his distinguished collaborative ensemble: Dalin Ursenbach (Crowd Power), Pat Ryan (Room Doom), and Andy March (Museum Pieces). Calling up the spirit of underground folk and rock, Mangles croons with harrowing thrushy whispers and bellows brightly. The group likewise explodes with anarchic grunge and also tackles moments of restraint and syncopation. http://cousinscousins.bandcamp.com/ 2) Van Horne brothers. Avoca, IA. Chicago, IL. The hearts of millions.
