Guitar

There are two bands named Guitar, this page is for Michael Luckner's Guitar project. If you are looking for DJ Alibi's band, you can find it at Guitar the Band. Michael Luckner's Guitar project is an exploration of (and love-letter to) the eponymous instrument. Luckner's enlightened approach to guitar noise is further sweetened by a simple but well-placed peppering of slow breakbeats and the soothing sighs of siren Ayako Akashiba, with guest spots from the likes of Regina of Donna Regina, Voyager One, and Henning Neuser.

Gauntlet Hair

Gauntlet Hair is a relatively unknown pair of dudes who are named Andy and Craig, from the small-ish (23,000 population) Colorado town of Lafayette. The pair garnered a fair amount of attention after being part of the Rhinoceropolis-curated block of Denver-based bands that played at the post-SXSW Mexican extravaganza MtyMx. The band's track "I Was Thinking..." is a pretty insatiable guitar stomp that throws some R&B and soul into the lo-fi revival pot, mixing heavily-reverbed guitars with a simple, but undeniably booty-shaking beat.

Heligoland's songs and sound have been compared to the atmospheric textures and soaring female vocals of the Cocteau Twins, the spartan soulfulness of Low and the wistful melancholy of Mojave 3. Heligoland have recently finished recording a new album in Paris and Rennes which was produced and mixed by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins / Violet Indiana).

Prego

"It takes a while to build a sound this big," ponders Prego frontman, Edd Simpson, "It also takes the right people to build it."
That sound being a colossal 10-armed substation of tempered ambition and amplification that, within the bat of an eyelid, can power down to the echo of footsteps, before snapping back larger and louder than ever before. It’s a bastard to get right – reigning in the piercing frequencies of three rival guitars, oddball synths, borrowed basses and lateral drums – but dagnammit on a good night it can sound mega.

Swervedriver

Swervedriver were a 1990s British guitar band initially associated with "shoegazing", however their heavier rock & roll style also related them to the grunge genre coming from the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Some music writers considered them to be Britain's answer to this sound. Regardless of labels, the band's mix of storming and swirling guitar experimentation often crossed into psychedelia, coupled with mystical lyrics that often praised the nihilism of sports cars, racing and the open road.
