The Liberty Ship's lead vocalist, songwriter and guitarist, Marc Elston, was one half of the superb late-80s/ early 90s indie pop noise duo Bulldozer Crash. Here he rounds up a full band and takes another shot at indie pop glory with a sound reminiscent of The Byrds.
Pikelet is a band from Melbourne, initially just the name for solo artist Evelyn Morris (Baseball, True Radical Miracle), who begun playing music in indie and hardcore bands as a drummer and vocalist. After leaving these bands, she started overlapping acoustic guitar, piano accordion, voice and alternative percussion techniques with a looping pedal, and created a handmade demo CD, 'Chair + Lamp', unofficially released in mid-2006, followed by another self-released EP, entitled...
Dntel is the solo project of Jimmy Tamborello. Dntel is known for mixing glitch and cut-up electronic techniques with instruments like acoustic guitars, accordions, and symphonic instruments. Dntel is also the project that spawned The Postal Service. He started working as Dntel, pronounced Din-tell, in 1994. A collection of tracks created between 1995-1997 (Early Works For Me If It Works For You) was released on the Phthalo label in 1999, followed by the release of an EP recorded in 1994 (Something Always Goes Wrong) in 2000.
Until Tomas Kubowicz , that is. The Swedish guitarist and songwriter was living in his native Norrköping when, years after it had first come and gone, he heard this music for the first time. "Sweden is, musically, quite Anglo-inspired; many of my friends listened to this kind of music, and that's the way I got hooked on it," he recalls. "Stone Roses was kind of an introduction - I never had any high thoughts of their debut album when I first listened to it, but when I picked up the album again a couple years later and had a listen, it totally exploded.
The Container Drivers are a shouty indie trio from West Yorkshire in the UK. In 2004, their Fall tribute "The Ex-Members of The Fall Club" was released on a German compilation album and picked up airplay on the John Peel show and across Europe. The group's debut single, "It Must be the Pipes", was released in July 2008.
There are two artists named The Springfields. 1. The Springfields were a British pop-folk vocal trio in the early 1960s, who had success both in the UK, USA and Ireland, but are now best remembered as the launch pad for singer Dusty Springfield. The trio formed in 1960, when Mary "Dusty" O’Brien joined her brother Dion O'Brien and Tim Feild, who had been working as a duo,"The Kensington Squares". Dion became Tom Springfield, and Mary became Dusty Springfield. Feild was later replaced by Mike Hurst.
There are at least 3 groups named Majestic 12. 1) A Wu-Tang Clan affiliated R&B group consisting of producer C12 (real name Carlos Bess, who has produced for Ghostface Killah and Shabazz The Disciple) and his wife Madam Majestic who has made appearances on various Wu-Tang Clan projects. Stars of Aviation are a pop group from Brighton and London. They met in university Russian class in 1998 and started playing together in 2000. Since then, they have grown in number to eight and now feature guitars, drums, trumpet, accordion, keyboards and bassoon. Stars of Aviation have released a number of EPs and singles. Marie et l'accordeon, released on Kitchen Records in 2006, gained radio play from Huw Stephens on Radio 1 and a number of BBC 6Music shows and was described as 'a slice of escapist wonder'.
