http://detroitunderground.net/beatport/dboy-01-exillon-mean-rich-mud-ep-... Exillon aka Jay Fields began playing drums at 12, was hooked on guitar by 13, started fiddling around with a bass at 15, and then his family got their first computer. He played drums with a band for 4 years, but a need to have absolute control over every aspect of his music propelled him into solo electronic work. At age 16 his friends Alex & Jesse introduced him to a simple, sample based sequencer called Impulse Tracker that was being used amongst the demo scene.

Artist Type:

Underground Resistance

Underground Resistance is the most militantly political outcropping of modern urban American techno. Combining a grubby, four-track aesthetic, an almost strictly DIY business philosophy, and an oppositional, militaristic ethos similar to Public Enemy without the drama (or the familiarity; the members refuse to be photographed without bandanas obscuring their identities), UR have redirected their portion of the Detroit techno legacy to social activist ends, trading mainstream popularity and financial success for independence and self-determination.
