Rebel Rebel

1. Founded on the ashes of their folk-rock predecessor (The Lasting Effect), Toronto-based rockers, Rebel Rebel, have quickly established themselves within the Southern Ontario music scene. Lyrically driven songs combined with rock’s root ideology and modern indie experimentation have allowed the band to stand out in the vast musical landscape we call Toronto. Known for their energetic and impassioned live show, the band brings an unapologetic, in-your-face sincerity that shows the band’s belief that music, at its core, has to be real, simple, and pure.

Yet it immediately became the very core of the local scene (we’re talking at least 8 people here, all of them shell- shocked by a short stay in town of band The Ex). Basically of Charles and François Virot (the latter being famous enough under his own name) and Amélie Lambert (a school book of whom cued the band with its name)...

Following a support to the Dead Kennedys, Grong Grong impressed Jello Biafra so much that he offered them a deal with Alternative Tentacles. The self titled EP featured one studio side (recorded as part of winning a battle of the bands contest) and a live side recorded at the Seaview Ballroom in St-Kilda (Melbourne). Unfortunately, as luck would have it when the EP was released lead singer Michael was in a coma for a number of years following a drug overdose which put Grong Grong on hiatus.
