Pissed Jeans are a rock band from Allentown, PA. The sound of their music is a combination of sludgy bands from the early Eighties like Flipper and My War-era Black Flag and the noise assault of The Jesus Lizard. James Mercer is currently the lead singer/songwriter for The Shins and Broken Bells, a project with DJ Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, producer of Beck and Gorillaz). Prior to The Shins and Broken Bells, he was the lead singer/songwriter of Flake, which later became Flake Music. There is a rare solo recording on January 7, 2004 of Mercer doing some private recordings of hit songs by his band The Shins for a radio station.
Rarely Seen Above Ground is Jeremy Hickey, a one-man band from Kilkenny. During live shows, Jeremy plays the drums and sings, while videos of him playing the other instruments featured on the track are displayed on a screen behind him.
The Beginning:
The band started out as What About Frank? in 2004 in Red Bank, New Jersey. During their career as What About Frank? they were twice recognized as Best Live Band at the Asbury Music Awards. They played many many shows including the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, the Van's Warped Tour, The Great Bamboozle Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and South by Southwest. Their debut self-titled release was one of the top-selling albums in local retail, and received airplay on both satellite and commercial radio.
