Garage Rock

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Canadian singer and songwriter Neil Young includes his personal garage band Crazy Horse ("second best backing band in the world") to make raw and unpolished rock. Their gritty style of rock has influenced countless artists and music styles. Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 13 albums, "Live at the Fillmore East" from the 1970 tour (2006) being the last.

Orient Express

Greenwich Village in the 1960s was home to the American folk music renaissance. “It cost $5 to get in to the Bitter End Café and Café Wha? and the Gymnasium if you didn’t plan on playing or singing on stage,” Bruno Giet recalls1. It was in the cafés where he met Guy Duris and Farshid Golesorkhi, two other struggling musicians looking for something to happen. Things were happening. Their contemporaries: Richie Havens, Buffy Sainte-Marie, John Philips and Holly Gilliam, and Bob Dylan to name a few.

Artist Type:

Apes Fight Back

Originally they were to be wed in an arranged marriage, agreed upon decades ago by forces unknown.
They escaped from the ceremony, leaving behind a trail of blood and urine and although the cries of those struck down on that fateful day had long since been silenced, there was nothing that could stop the screams in each of these Apes heads...
They spend their days listening to the evil little sods telling them to do naughty things and then squeeze the ramblings out through 4 big stings, some sticks and a few pots and pans.

Artist Type:

The Eviltones

The Eviltones deliver prime garage stomp with masterful surf-punk guitar, red raw vocals and a big bad hammerhead rhythm section pounding out the brutal and bloody backbeat to a concrete jungle call.
Worshipping and invoking the restless, haunted ancestry that runs from the delta blues through 60’s garage into punk rock; The Eviltones devilishly distil the myths and spectres from the dark side of rock’n’roll history into high-octane, prime slices of furious death-dance burn-out boogie.

The Orwells

For The Orwells, Remember When will be an introduction of sorts—the 12-track rat-race shows the band’s repertoire of pranging riffs and sneering, snot-nosed vocals. The tracks are a walloping war-cry from a generation that up until this point has only offered bubblegum pop—the animus of The Orwells. It’s quite clear early on the in listening to the LP that the band is well aware of the past, the homage rings through the record, using the ghost of punk’s past as their musical sprit guide.

The Laureates

With members that hail from the corners of Iowa, Kentucky and remote Illinois, The Laureates are surprisingly at ease with the big-city-energies that drive their debut LP, There Are No More Gentlemen. The group formed in the rocker-friendly context of Chicago over a two-year process that spanned from 2005 to 2007 and saw a handful of members come and go. The project began as Chad Preston’s brain-child when he independently wrote and recorded an album that was exciting enough to inspire him to go out and find the right team to perform the songs.
