The REAL CORLEONES!
They invented violent rock and roll. From Sickboy Records: "vi-o-lent 1:marked by extreme force or sudden intense activity 2: a. notably furious or vehement (also): excited or mentally disordered to the point of loss of control
Most bands cannot claim to have begun the road to rock 'n' roll notoriety in the famous halls of Oxford University, nor could they point to an attempted government coup as the inspiration for their moniker, but then Cato Street Conspiracy are not most bands. The band pride themselves on providing intelligent lyricism to underpin their high octane, riff-heavy rock 'n' roll. The subject matter of the band's work varies from ensuing environmental disaster (2030) and street violence (Danger!)...
Formed in the mid-'90's by Craig Riggs and Tim Catz, they raised the bar for riff loving hard rock, proving that the West Coast didn't have a lock on what most considered "stoner rock." They released a single on Man's Ruin, three albums ("$1,000,000," "Nationwide," and "Rock n Roll"), a compilation of singles and B-sides ("Taking Out the Trash"), toured the hell out of the US and Europe with the likes of Nebula, Orange Goblin, and Scissorfight, and then, like all good bands and unlike too many shitty ones, went on the dreaded "indefinite hiatus".
Note To Self: Don’t Die!. Claire Banfield - vocals
Gerard Rada Nedich - guitars, drums, bass, piano etc... They are a true DIY band. They record their songs themselves, design and build their own website and even sell their songs as mp3 downloads on their website. They have been compared to Blondie, PJ Harvey and The Breeders although they would say they just write songs that they like to listen to and would hate to be pigeonholed. They record their songs in Gerard's spare bedroom on a cheap Apple Mac Mini and Garageband software that came with the computer.
From the North. Rock quite hard.
Hoss is a hard rock band based in Melbourne, Australia. One of a string of 90s hard rock bands on Melbourne's Dog Meat Records that included the Powder Monkeys and Splatterheads, Hoss was primarily a vehicle for the songs of front man, Joel Silbersher. Silbersher also makes solo records, collaborated with guitarist Charlie Owen under the name of Tendrils and tours as a backing musician with acts such as Tex Perkins and the Dirty Three.
When five pieces from the splintered membership of hardcore's most influential '90s outfits came together, Handsome was formed and the songwriting, textural, and creative limits of an entire genre of rock music were expanded to a previously unimaginable degree. At its center, Handsome was directed by former Helmet guitarist Peter Mengede. While not officially credited as the group's songwriter, Mengede's very identifiable riffs and song structures seem to be a musical basis for Handsome's music.
Takida, a five piece rock band from Ånge, Sweden, started out in 1999 and they have worked hard to get where they are today. They have been touring all around Sweden and built quite a reputation as a solid live rockband. Their fanbase is growing as we speak. Their first demo Old was only produced in 500 copies and sold out immediately, Old was recorded in year 2000. It was followed up by the EP T2 (2000), the full length album Takida (2001), the ep Gohei (2003) and the ep Thorns (2004).
