Steve Coleman is an American saxophone player, spontaneous composer, composer and band leader. His music and concepts have been a heavy influence on contemporary jazz. Born on 20 September 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, Coleman moved to New York in 1978 and has lived in the NY area since that time. Although he has led several groups over the years, his main group Steve Coleman and Five Elements began in 1981 and is still active today.

Joseph Salvatore Lovano was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 29, 1952 and grew up in a very musical household. His dad, Tony, aka Big T, was a barber by day and a big-toned tenor player at night. "Big T," along with his brothers Nick and Joe, other tenor players, and Carl, a bebop trumpeter, made sure Joe's exposure to Jazz and the saxophone were early and constant. Joe's mom, Josephine, and her sister Rose were serious listeners, as well.

Peter Evans is an American trumpet player based in New York, who specializes in improvisation and avant-garde music. Peter Evans has been a member of the New York City musical community since 2003, when he moved to the city after graduating from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Peter currently works in a wide variety of areas, including solo performance, chamber orchestras, performance art, free improvised settings, electro-acoustic music and composition.
Formed by three musicians from the new improvised music Lisbon scene, RED trio features Rodrigo Pinheiro at the piano, Hernâni Faustino at the doublebass and Gabriel Ferrandini at the drums. The trio was formed in 2007 as a response to a challenge posed by Hernâni Faustino. RED Trio explores one of the most prolific jazz formations: piano/doublebass/drums. The Thing is a Norwegian/Swedish jazz band, consisting of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Ingebrigt Haker Flaten (double bass), and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums). The trio was established in February 2000 during a series of concerts in Stockholm and a recording of Don Cherry-compositions that was released in Sweden by the label Crazy Wisdom/Universal. Melding German, British and American traditions of free music, their repertoire has later been collected from various sources such as James Blood Ulmer, Frank Lowe, PJ Harvey, White Stripes, Lightning Bolt and Joe McPhee.
