Crime & the City Solution

Crime & the City Solution were a rock group headed by Australian singer/songwriter Simon Bonney and active between the years of 1977-1991. Despite roots dating back as far as 1978, Crime & the City Solution did not truly emerge until 1984, coming to life in the wake of the dissolution of the seminal Birthday Party. Crime & the City Solution had many members over the years, which can be divided into four distinct line-ups: Sydney in 1977-78, Melbourne in 1979, and two groupings in Berlin. The only common member in all four line-ups was Bonney.

Dead Kennedys

Dead Kennedys are a hardcore punk/punk rock band from San Francisco, California. During the 1980s the band gained a large underground following in the international punk music scene. Their music mixed the more experimental elements of English 1970s punk with the raw energy of the 1980s American scene. Dead Kennedys' songs mix the deliberately shocking lyrics of punk with a satirical and sarcastic left-wing commentary on social and political issues.

Artist Type:

Emily Breeze

With her psychobilly bad-girl vibe Bristol girl Emily Breeze "comes on like Elvis, Nick Cave and Patti Smith playing a baptist preacher all rolled into one. Her striking bequiffed persona rocks, swaggers and plays holy southern hell out of a beautiful white guitar. Along with her partners in crime, drummer Dan and bassist John, she "plays songs of love and faillure with more sweat and energy than a hundred simpering indie boy bands," says Artrocker magazine. Stool Pigeon says they can be "schlocky, silly, derivative" but at the same time "bloody brilliant".

Artist Type:

Gallon Drunk

Often compared to dark and brooding sounds of such artists as Tom Waits, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and Morphine, the London quartet Gallon Drunk originally united in 1990 consisting of members James Johnston (vocals, guitar, organ, piano, harmonica), ryan savage (keyboards, maracas, trumpet), Ian White (drums), and Jeremy Cottingham (bass). Shortly after their formation, the quartet began issuing singles on their own label (Massive), most of which reached the top of the independent charts and were selected as Single of the Week in such acclaimed British music publications as NME and Melody Maker.

Artist Type:

Repulsion

Repulsion are a legendary band hailed as being one of the biggest influences on the genre, despite only releasing one official full length album entitled "Horrified" in 1989 (recorded in 1986). The band formed in 1984 under the name Genocide, releasing three demos with this name. Later, they changed the name to the more "fitting name" for their style of music and lyrical content, which is Repulsion.
