math rock

Instruments (Make Music)

Instruments (Make Music) are a four piece math-pop band from South & East London and Essex, consisting of Ashley Davies (guitar/vocals), Stacey Conway (bass/vocals), Rob Wolfenden (guitar) and Matt Hill (Drums). They make precise yet unconstrained math pop, it’s bouncy, fun but hiding in the closet there's a slice of drama which can't help but rear its little head from the midst of chirpy melodies.

The Mass

"The barrier between metal and jazz has been pierced again. Like Chicago's Yakuza, the Bay Area thrash outfit The Mass augment their high-speed, staccato riffing with fluid, almost (dare I say it) harmolodic saxophone lines from vocalist Matt Walters. There are times when Walters launches into screeching, post-Ayler solos, in the manner of Steve Mackay on the Stooges' Fun House or Bruce Lamont on Yakuza's Way Of The Dead; the just-under-90-second "Gas Pipe" is the most extreme track on the disc, from this angle.

Mineral

"Mineral" could refer to at least four bands, an emo band from Houston, Texas, Armenian rock music veterans from Jermuk and another one from Boston. 1) Mineral formed in 1994 and like other young bands, they toured constantly, virtually living in their van. The band's first release, the 7 inch "Gloria"/"Parking Lot" 7", was released on Audio Concept by Kerry McDonald from Christie Front Drive (the record was later re-released by Caulfield Records). Through a few rabid fans, that 7" found its way into the hands of crank! and Mineral later decided to release their records on the label.
