Esperanto

Note: There seem to be at least three different bands using the name ''Esperanto''. This article is about the prog band from the 1970s. ESPERANTO biography Esperanto is a language invented in 1887 by Zamenhof, who combined bits of various Romance language to make what he hoped would become a vehicle of universal communication. The Belgo-English band of the same name at the beginning of the 70s had a short but intense career and produced an extremely varied musical repertoire thanks to the many different nationalities, origins and outlooks of its members.

Marsupilami

MARSUPILAMI were an English proto-prog outfit who relocated to the Netherlands. The complexity of their music is quite unusual for the times – we’re talking 1970 here, when the big guns such as YES, GENESIS and CRIMSON were barely coming out of the woodwork. A mixture of blues, experimental jazz and hints of folk, their music is often dark and foreboding, favouring perilously complex structures. Try to imagine a mixture of KING CRIMSON, JETHRO TULL, the STRAWBS and EAST OF EDEN.

Comets On Fire

Comets on Fire are a band from Santa Cruz, California. The band was formed in 1999 by guitarist and vocalist Ethan Miller and longtime friend bassist Ben Flashman, who were seeking to create rhythmically and sonically intense music that paid no attention to categorizations. The band's self-titled debut was released in 2001 and eventually issued on the Alternative Tentacles label. Recorded on a four-track, it was a garage/psych freakout of intense if not epic proportions.

Attica

There are at least two bands by the name of Attica 01. The ATTICA project started in September 2002 in Brussels, Belgium. It’s about music that is both spontaneous and solid, free spirited whilst still being conscious of its acts. ATTICA' s intention is to offer the audience an intuitive experience that evolves between the romantic and the soft, the angry and the heavy, the weird and the wonderful. It pulls people into evocative or troubling soundscapes with melodies that remind you that Attica is a rock band, to dance to, to sing along with, to relate to.

Red Box

Red Box is a British pop group formed in the 1980s. The group was originally a five-piece band, and released its debut single "Chenko" on Cherry Red Records in 1983. Following this, the band slimmed down to a duo, Simon Toulson-Clarke and Julian Close, and took on a more synthpop direction. Their second single "Saskatchewan" (a cover of the Buffy Sainte-Marie song) brought them to the attention of WEA, who signed the duo.
