Lloyd Cole

Born January 31, 1961. An English-born singer and songwriter, known for his role as lead singer of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions from 1984 to 1989 and for his subsequent solo work. He was born in Buxton, Derbyshire. He grew up in nearby Chapel en le Frith and went to New Mills Grammar School. After failing in law at University College London, he later attended (but did not graduate from) the University of Glasgow, where he studied philosophy and English and met the other members of The Commotions.

Robin Beck

ROBIN BECK first came to prominence singing the Coca-Cola theme tune 'The First Time', scoring a major international hit in the process. Although this was to be the general public's inauguration into the lady's work, Beck had in fact been plugging away on the music scene for quite some time, having issued her debut album, the heavily Disco orientated 'Sweet Talk', in 1979. This soon forgotten opus, featuring backing vocals from no less a figure than Luther Vandross, included a cover version of TODD RUNDGREN's 'Hello It's Me'.

Tanita Tikaram

Tanita Tikaram is a German-born, British-raised artist, born to a Malaysian mother and Indo-Fijian British army officer father. She is the sister of actor Ramon Tikaram and currently resides in London. As a singer-songwriter, Tikaram scored her greatest hit to date with Twist In My Sobriety, from her debut album Ancient Heart in 1988, when she was 19 years of age. After two years she released her second album The Sweet Keeper, containing songs such as Sunset's Arrived and Harm In Your Hands.

The Shorts

The Shorts are a hardcore punk band from Southampton, UK. They were formed by Mike Fox (guitar / vocals) and Tony Suspect (drums / vocals) in 2009. A demo was recorded with Kevin Borrett (ex Pilger) playing bass.They then recruited Neil Clelland (ex Intent / Pilger) to play guitar and the "Skinned Alive" EP was recorded in 2011. Alan Marshall (ex Whole In The Head / Chinapple Punx) joined. Influences: Minor Threat, Limp Wrist, The Stupids, 7 Seconds. Glass Robots

Alluring vocal melodies, huge lush synthesizers and dark disco basslines, wash over industrial percussion. With influences ranging from Bowie to The Smiths, Sigur Ros to Kraftwerk, Glass Robots create a kind of new romantic, dance pop melee from the future. Songs about emotional breakdown, technological paranoia, sex, cinema and obsession, confirm the duos prophetic interpretation of today's deranged society. The Floor

There are three bands by the name of the Floor. One is a band based in Dundee, Scotland. Another is from Edmonton, Alberta foursome The Floor released a series of LP's and EP's culminating with Personnel, an extension of the band's flirtation with noise rock like Ride and the dance rock of Interpol and bands of that ilk. The band are on again off again, although they are opening for Trans Am in a few weeks, indicating the shoegazers are indeed on again. Floor is a sludge metal band from florida on no idea records and now has members in Torche

Gaskin

Gaskin's harmonized melodic vocal style set them apart from many their NWOBHM contemporaries, with their style being a bit more refined than the rough riffing associated with early 80's Brit metal. With the standout opening track "Sweet Dream Maker", the End Of The World debut ranks as the better of the two albums released before falling by the wayside alongside many other bands of the time. Many years later, founder/namesake Paul Gaskin recruited a new lineup and released Stand Or Fall in 2000, which coincided with their appearance at Wacken 2000.

Girls on Film refers to two different groups of people. One is a new wave, all-girl band from Florida. The other is a film discussion podcast hosted by Heather Stewart and Suzanne Keilly.
