Zoetrope

There are 2 Zoetropes: The first was a popular Chicago band in the 80's, Zoetrope's music (self-described as "street metal") was aggressive 80's metal bordering on thrash. Two good albums were released in the eighties, and then a totally revamped lineup came together five years later with "Mind Over Splatter", which may or may not be of a similar style. The bands name (pronounced e-trope) was derived from sort of film industry apparatus, as well as the name of Francis Ford Coppola's studio.

Artist Type:

Insanity

Formed in 1985, Bay Area band Insanity were instrumental in metal's evolution from thrash to death metal. Drummer Bud Mills was a big reason why, as his so-called "1-1" beat presaged the modern blastbeat. The band's sound more than lived up to its name. Not only did it crank thrash up to frenzied warp speeds, it also displayed chops well ahead of its time. Insanity were legendary worldwide in the '80s metal tape trading circuit, with members of Carcass and Napalm Death citing them as an influence.

Artist Type:

Anihilated

Anihilated formed in 1982 as Prospex, a punk group. The original singer, Andy, parted after the recording of the first demo. Simon Cobb took over the vocal duties. At the same time Mark Beuchet was let into the band, and the guitar playing style changed to a more riffy kind. They gradually changed from pure punk to punk/metal crossover. The 1986 EP, Path to Destruction, made clear to the audience that they were now a crossover band. At the time of Ultimate Desecration they hade went even further away from their roots, now playing a brand of thrash.

DragonForce

DragonForce is a power metal band that was formed in 1999, from the remnants of black metal band Demoniac under the name of DragonHeart. However, the band soon changed its name to DragonForce before releasing any commercial albums due to possible commercial issues with Brazilian band DragonHeart. Their career began with publishing of songs on the first incarnation of MP3.com, claiming the top of the site's heavy metal charts. The hit song Valley of the Damned reached over 500,000 downloads in the first few months.

Artist Type:

Death Angel

Among the youngest bands ever to storm the metal genre, Death Angel has come to be known as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the thriving Bay Area Thrash Metal Scene in the early 1980s, an era when one could catch Cliff Burton (Metallica) at the front of the stage at Ruthie's Inn banging his head to Death Angel's inventive style, and speedy, complex arrangements. In 1986, a Death Angel demo produced by Kirk Hammett (Metallica) titled "Kill As One" sparked the interest of Enigma Records.

Gospel of the Horns

Gospel of the Horns formed in Brisbane, Australia, in '93 and in late '94 they released their cult demo The Satanist's Dream. It gathered great responses, which in turn led to a deal with the incompetent Einstand Records to press the demo on CD. Not only was the layout incorrect, they also placed a photo of a different band in the booklet... To this day, the band urge no-one to purchase this CD as this label does not warrant your money.
