Grupo Fantasma

Grupo Fantasma is an eleven-piece latin funk orchestra from Austin, Texas. Formed in 2000 from the merger of two austin acts, The Blue Noise Band and The Blimp, the band emerged with a sold out show at the former Empanada Parlour in Austin. The band is best known for their exuberant live shows and their recent association with Prince and his 3121 Club in Las Vegas. The band has backed Prince on numerous occasions, including his performance on the ALMA Awards in 2007, and often perform at his afterparty jam sessions. The ensemble has sold more than 20,000 albums independently.

A Tribe Called Red

In 2008, DJ’s NDN and Bear Witness founded A Tribe Called Red. In 2010, they added two-time Canadian DMC champ, DJ Shub to the crew. Electric Pow Wow is a monthly club night dedicated to showcasing Aboriginal DJ talent and Native urban culture and is aimed at creating a space for Aboriginal people. ATCR creates an eclectic sound made up of a wide variety of musical styles ranging from hip-hop, dance hall, electronic, and their own mash-up of club and Pow Wow music, known as pow wow step.

Terakaft

Terakaft is a gang of guitarists, in the same vein as Tinariwen. Nothing astonishing about that if you consider that Terakaft was founded by Kedou and Diara, two formative and historical guitarists from Tinariwen. Moreover Kedou accompanied Tinariwen to the very first Festival with the Desert by Chock-Essako in January 2001, and contributes four songs on their first album The Radio Tisdas Sessions.

Daara J

Daara J (Pronounced Daa-raa Jee, which means "The School" in the Wolof language) are a Senegalese rap trio, consisting of N’Dango D, Aladji Man and Faada Freddy. Their music blends western hiphop with traditional African rhythms to create a great infectionsly dancy style. In their last album, Boomrang, they were joined by guests including Rokia Traore, who is one of the leading women in Malian music.

Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino

The CANZONIERE GRECANICO SALENTINO is the first folklore research group in Puglia. It has been active since 1975 and has always been present at musical events connected to folk. Since 1975 the band has promoted modern popular communication in the contemporary situation, without reviving past traditions, without searching for a lost identity; not a “nostalgic-archaeological” recovery but a process of independent expression.

After that it was blues and the electric guitar, and then in an Andrzej Bieńkowski film I heard the Józef Kędzierski band. It was a revelation: the authenticity, intensity and ease that I had been looking for throughout the world existed right here, beside me – in my own language and the musical phrases belonging to it. I started visiting village musicians and became fascinated with mazureks, getting to know a whole world around them.

Yair Dalal

Yair Dalal (born 1955) is a composer, violinist and oud player and is probably the most prolific Israeli ethnic musician today, with global recognition (WOMAD appearances from Seattle to Sydney).
Over the last decade he has put nine albums, covering wide and varied cultural territory. Much of Dalal's output reflects the strong affinity he has for the desert and its habitants. Dalal's family came to Israel from Baghdad and he has included much Iraqi material in his work to date.

Ilham Al Madfai

Ilham al Madfai (Arabic: ????? ???????) is an Iraqi guitarist, singer, and composer. His musical talent began to develop seriously when he was twelve years old. He started as, and still is, a guitarist at heart. His musical career formally started when he formed his first band, the Twisters, in the 1960s. They were the first band in Iraq, and probably the Arab world, that used modern instruments to play Arabic music (guitar, drums, bass, & piano).
