Following the split of Australian black metal band Baal Gadrial in 2003, vocalist Azgorh created Drowning the Light. Four demo tapes were recorded and given extremely limited distribution, being given out only to close friends. From 2003 to 2009 Azgorh has recorded 10+ demos, 10 full-length albums (5 of which were released in the same year: 2007) and material for a number of split albums under the Drowning the Light moniker.

There are at least (7) artists that share this name: 1) German Black/Doom Metal band, formed in the year 2004 by Johannes, Albert and Karl in Lübeck. While they started out playing a style deeply rooted in Depressive Black Metal, later on the music evolved toward a calmer, more solemn direction. The band was brought to life in 1998 and was put on hold in Oct. 2007 due to a legal dispute with the record label. Wrest brought the project back in January 2008 to release the latest album. Wrest plays every instrument found in Leviathan's music; guitar (electric + acoustic), drums, bass, synths, ebow, and vocals.
