Dans Les Arbres

Guitarist Ivar Grydeland and percussionist Ingar Zach, prime movers and catalysts for free improvised music in Norway, got in touch with Christian Wallumrød after hearing his “Sofienberg Variations” on ECM and they have since worked together in diverse combinations including, since 2004, ‘Dans les arbres’ a project completed by French clarinettist Xavier Charles. Their radical all-acoustic improvisation explores sonorities and textures that frequently sound electronic, and also often sounds ‘composed’ – with echoes of Cage and the New York School.

Thomas Strønen

Thomas Strønen is one of Norway´s most prolific drummers, known from Food, Humcrush, Parish, Maria Kannegaard Trio and others, where he has often also taken on the role of writer and arranger and sometimes producer. ”Pohlitz” is the 30th record he appears on, but his very first solo album. All the material is written, arranged and produced by Thomas, but is, originally enough, a percussion record completely without ordinary drums.

John Potter

John Potter sings with The Dowland Project, Red Byrd and the Gavin Bryars Ensemble. A writer and academic as well as a singer, he has published three books on singing and two more are in the pipeline; he is Reader in Music at the University of York. His most recent recording and performing project is Being Dufay, in which his singing of music by the fifteenth century Guillaume Dufay is reinterpreted by composer Ambrose Field.

Heiner Goebbels

The composer and director Heiner Goebbels (born 1952) belongs to the most important exponents of the contemporary music and theatre scene. His compositions (distributed by Ricordi) are performed by various orchestras and ensembles, his radio works broadcasted by many German speaking radio stations and regularly there are about eight music theater productions in the repertoire of Ensemble Modern, Theatre Vidy, Les Percussions de Strasbourg and artmobil which have been showed and are to be seen on many major international music and theatre festivals.

Dave Holland

Dave Holland (born October 1, 1946) is a British jazz bassist and composer who is a significant representative of avant-garde jazz. Born in Wolverhampton, England, Holland learned to play bass as a child, and spent three years studying the instrument at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. By 1967 he was a regular player at Ronnie Scott's, the premier jazz club in London, backing visiting musicians.

Peter Erskine

Peter Erskine (born June 5, 1954) is a jazz drummer. He was born in Somers Point, New Jersey, USA. He began playing the drums at the age of four. His professional career started in 1972 when he joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra. After three years with Kenton he joined Maynard Ferguson for two years. In 1978 he joined Weather Report, joining the legendary Jaco Pastorius to form a formidable rhythm section. After fours years and five albums with Weather Report he joined Steps Ahead.

Alexander von Schlippenbach

Alexander von Schlippenbach (* 1938 in Berlin) is a German jazz pianist and composer.
Schlippenbach started to play piano from the age of 8 and went on to study composition at Cologne under Bernd Alois Zimmermann. While studying he started to play with Manfred Schoof. At the age of 28 he founded the Globe Unity Orchestra.
He produced various recordings and worked for German radio channels. He played with many essential players of the European free jazz community, most notably in the "Alexander von Schlippenbach Trio" with drummer Paul Lovens and saxophonist Evan Parker.

Egberto Gismonti

Egberto Amin Gismonti (born December 5, 1947 in Carmo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a brazilian composer, guitarist and pianist. Gismonti began his formal music studies at the age of six on piano. After studying classical music for 15 years, he went to Paris to study orchestration and analysis with Nadia Boulanger and the composer Jean Barraqué, a disciple of Arnold Schönberg and Anton Webern. After his return to Brazil, Gismonti began to explore other musical genres.
