The Zebras

On first blush, this sounds like the latest gorgeous, jangly guitar pop record from somewhere north of Manchester. Belle and Sebastian meet the better moments of the Lightning Seeds, with Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame strumming away. But on closer listening there's a certain local twang to both the voices and the music on the second production from this unheralded Brisbane six-piece. There's nary a foot, or a note, wrong on this, and the Zebras can lay claim to being, if not the heirs, then at least the love child of the Go-Betweens.

Not long after she assembled a band with Cameron Potts and Rhonda Simmonds - who has since left the group and now plays in Origami. Other former members of the band are Iain McIntyre (who played with Laura in several earlier bands) and Amy Clarke (formerly of The Vivian Girls). Meg Butler joined in 2006.

The Bank Holidays

From the band's site (http://www.thebankholidays.com/the_story.html)
It begins in the small Norwegian fishing town of Stavanger, as two members of The Bank Holidays spend their days playing badminton, enjoying fjords, and hanging out with Norwegian grandparents, all while listening to Norway's favourite musical sons Kings of Convenience. These factors result in a song, and the idea for a band whose primary occupation is vocal harmonies and melodies of the highest order.

Their music is predominantly psychedelic with elements of funk. The four-piece are signed to legendary record label 4AD. An interesting aspect of the band's music and aesthetic is their use of two drummers. This allows the percussive elements of their music to feature more prominently alongside the guitar.
