a1 (group name with small letters) is an Anglo-Norwegian boyband whose first single, "Be The First To Believe", was released in 1999. The band consists of Mark Read, Ben Adams and Christian Ingebrigtsen. The group's publicity mainly focuses on the fact that they write the majority of their own songs and the three band members also play their own instruments. In 2000, they achieved their two number one singles in the UK; a cover of a-ha’s 1985 single “Take On Me” and “Same Old Brand New You”.

Union J (formerly Triple J) are a four-piece boy band from United Kingdom. They are contestants on The X-Factor (UK).

The band auditioned as a trio, consisting of band members Josh Cuthbert, Jaymi Hensley and JJ Hamblett, hence the "J" at the end of their name. Initially, they did not make it through the bootcamp stage. However, after fellow contestants Rough Copy had to withdraw from the show, they were given a second chance, and advanced to judges' houses, under the new alias Union J, with a new fourth member, George Shelley, who originally applied as a solo artist.

1. British boy band 911 were formed in the early 90s by members Simon 'Spike' Dawbarn (Born in Warrington 5/8/74) and Jimmy Constable (Born in Liverpool 21/9/71). The pair had worked on cult late night television show 'The Hit man and her' as dancers. When they started to receive more recognition than the acts they were dancing for, they decided to start a group of their own. Lee Brennan (Born in Carlisle 27/9/73) joined the band after successfully auditioning for Jimmy and Spike.

Niall Horan (born 13th September 1993) is a 20-year old boy from Mullingar, Ireland. He is a member of a five-piece boyband, One Direction (formed in 2010). Before he competed in the UK and Ireland singing competition "The X Factor", he played numerous gigs around the country including as a support act for Lloyd Daniels (in Dublin). He then took up the challenge of applying to the X Factor 2010 whereby he entered as a solo artist.
