Their sound is a fusion of Oi!, punk, ska and reggae. Their lyrics discuss social issues such as work, unemployment, drugs, media, street life, and generational gaps. The band's influences include The Clash, Sham 69, Angelic Upstarts and The Specials.
The Restarts are a hardcore punk and ska punk band from London, England. They formed in 1995 in London with Darragh on drums, Kieran from Armed and Hammered on bass, and Mik on the guitar. They played many shows in the UK with their three-piece until Mik left, at which point Alan joined the band. With Alan on guitar they recorded their System Error CD, but due to Alan's commitments to the UK Subs he had to leave the band.

In 1997 they contributed a song called Stone 314 to a compilation titled GRRRR!! Extreme Music From Vancouver - Volume 1. The compilation was put together and produced by Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad fame. Later down the track Bombscare would disband and some members would form the stoner rock band Evenlight. Evenlight features Brian (Beavis / The Beav) Waddel on guitar, who also played in The Devin Townsend Band.

The band have appeared on multiple compilations over the years and in 2000 a new line up was formed with Chris Wright on vocals and Decca Wade on drums. In 2001 the third album "Back For More" was self released. The band have played extensively in the UK and also all over Europe.
