Maps & Atlases

Chicago’s progressive songsmiths Maps & Atlases released their long awaited album, Perch Patchwork, on June 29, 2010. The record was produced by Jason Cupp (The Elected, Nurses, Cast Spells). The band’s unique style melds the technicality of progressive music and the idiosyncrasies of art rock into a fascinating and oddly accessible sound all their own. Known for their virtuosic musical ability, Maps & Atlases write pop songs with a magnificent aptitude for texture and a distinctive blend of both the intricate and organic.

Pattern Is Movement

Following their first three records, endless shows and tours (among them dates with friends St. Vincent, David Bazan, and The Forms), and the transition from five-to-four-to-three-to-two members, Pattern is Movement turned themselves inside out and made the record we‘ve all been waiting for: All Together. Andrew Thiboldeaux and Chris Ward embody the two-man wall of sound; it‘s music that‘s been a long time building, rising out of the ether of left-behind evangelical childhoods (see Jesus Camp), best friendship (kindled as kids listening to The Chronic), and life in Philadelphia.

CHIMERA

There are several bands called Chimera:
1) Chimera are a band from Belfast, Northern Island. Formed in 1990 the Band revolved around the extraordinary voice of Eileen Henry. Sounding like a cross between Cocteau Twins and Cranberries this band should have gone on to be as big as either of these bands. Other band members included Steven Emerson on bass, Willie Vincent on drums, and Ted Laverty on guitars. The album "Lughnasa" (the Celtic God of Harvests) was released in 1993 and had two spin off singles - "Ellis Bleeds" and "Cyan Daze".

Summer Cats

Summer Cats are two girls and three boys from Melbourne, Australia. Like most people from Melbourne, they spend their time either: a) enjoying summer or b) waiting for summer to arrive. They play crash pop in an attempt to make you dance, so if you feel the urge...go right ahead! Musically they are somewhat of a cross between Stereolab and The Go-Betweens....or is that Talulah Gosh and The Left Banke?

Artist Type:

The Stopouts

The Stopouts were formed in 2006 after Al and Dejan saw ska legends The Toasters play a gig in a total dive on a scummy industrial estate near Liverpool, supported by pathetic ‘chaos’ and ‘rape’ metal bands. They decided a ska revival was needed on Merseyside to counter the prevailing influence of dire metal bands and arsehole indie wannabes. Recruiting Rob on drums, they started playing a few covers, before quickly moving to original material with the arrival of vocalist Tom and Anna on saxophone.

Artist Type:

Yolke

Over time the 4-piece psych/ambient unit Yolke have swum between bittersweet confusion and thick lucid sonics, and crackled forward their 2010 debut EP Poppy Wash, which not so much leaves their conception behind, but instead stows it in the subconscious.
Formed while field researching sound in Melbourne early 2008, they began playing live in October of the same year, and have since dotted many nights with technocolour soundscapes and phosphorous encrusted beats.
