Kooch

Kooch was originally founded in 1990 by the Iranian guitarist, singer-songwriter Cyrus Khajavi. Having spent the preceding 10 years or so working as a rock guitarist (6 years of which were spent recording and touring with the English rock band Quasar), he decided to bring his experience from the rock world and his love of Iranian poetry and folk music together. Having written the album Baran he invited Farzad Khavand, a classical violinist, who was also interested in the musical possibilities outside his usual field to join him for the recording.

Cherry Brakewells

You could say The Cherry Brakewells were born in the wrong place at the wrong time. The girl rock trio from London would probably have been more at home in Memphis or Louisiana circa 1966 as their influences are based firmly in the late sixties and early seventies with bands like the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream and Led Zeppelin. The Cherry’s were formed in 2002 originally called ‘Red’. After three years of playing the small gig circuit they decided to go their separate ways.

String Driven Thing

Back in the 70's, when there was no MTV, real music fans went 'underground' digging for gold, and found bands like String Driven Thing. Fronted by Glaswegians Chris & Pauline Adams, they were part of the famed Charisma stable, alongside Genesis, Lindisfarne & Van Der Graaf Generator and by the time they split in ‘74, they'd released three cult albums, the last of which, 'The Machine That Cried' was hailed at the time as a “staggering achievement” by the Guardian’s rock critic, Martin Walker.

The Albion Band

The Albion Band are a folk band founded by the former member of Fairport Convention Ashley Hutchings. The band has gone through many evolutions of membership, and indeed name: The Albion Dance Band, The Albion Country Band, The Albion Christmas Band, and spilling over into "Ridgeriders" (Ashley Hutchings, Phil Beer, Chris While, et. al). These apparently different groups share members, tunes, and CD tracks in a fairly confusing fashion, and sometime even the CD sleeve does not agree with the generally used group name for that album.

Acoustic Strawbs

Acoustic Strawbs were formed by accident after Dave Cousins and Brian Willoughby (members of Strawbs) were booked to perform as a duo in Twickenham in 2000. Cousins damaged his wrist and Dave Lambert stepped in to cover while Cousins sang. The format was successful and tours were arranged. Brian Willoughby stepped down in 2004 to concentrate on his work with Cathryn Craig and he was replaced by Chas Cronk who added bass pedals and acoustic bass guitar as well as extra vocals and guitar to their first studio effort...
