Zoviet France

:zoviet*france: is an idiosyncratic collective of anonymous postindustrialists, dronologists, and pseudo-ethnomusicologists. Their investigations have taken them into semi-fictional cultures where reality is not easily located - although oft-forgotten historical markers, such as beachhead bunkers, occasionally punctuate their cover artwork - and often slips into the realm of the waking dream. Having secluded themselves in Newcastle, England since their inception in 1982, :Zoviet*France: have developed a radical relationship with the cheap technologies of old-fashioned tape recorders...

Robert Curgenven

Robert Curgenven (1974) works with harmonics, textures and resonance as articulated not only through instruments/objects, in space and place, but also in time and the dislocation of the remote, exploring slowly shifting layers in the fabric of fields of perception. Creating vast landscapes from carefully detailed recordings through to immersive resonances via deft manipulations of sound pressure - described by one audience member as “like a punch in the face while elsewhere flowers bloomed.“

Higuma

San Francisco-based Higuma is Evan Caminiti (of Barn Owl) & Lisa McGee with smoked out vocals, guitar delays and any number of drone layered acoustics. Very much a distant sound, with distortions burnished down to smooth horizontal planes that lift the music to higher summits. Not at all dissimilar from some of Barn Owl's recent excursions, but with the addition of Lisa's vocals, this goes somewhere else completely.

"For me, these songs evoke more of a feeling than a concept-making this record was kind of a journey into and out of things making sense.

Date Palms

‘Of Psalms’ is the debut album by Date Palms, the duo of Marielle Jakobsons and Gregg Kowalsky. The two have birthed a suite of slowed-down music of the spheres, with a canopy of glowing fog and a heavy narcotic bass pulse that keeps the whole thing rooted straight into the earth. It’s a heady mix of alap paced violin phrases, jewel toned keys, harp swells, distorted tapes and ever present bass waves all crafted with precision detail in a humid space that leaves a dreamy imprint in the mind long after waking.
