A-Trak

Alain Macklovitch performs and records under the name A-Trak. He is a Montreal, Quebec based DJ and turntablist. He won the DMCs World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15, the youngest ever. He was later asked to join the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and is a member of The Allies. He is currently supporting Kanye West as a DJ. C2C was born in 1998 from the meeting of 4 french Dj's : Greem, Atom, Pfel and 20Syl. Member of an emerging movement called "scratch music" (or turntablism), this crew keeps working on finding original sounds and knows how to benefit from its technical control to put forward some musical quality which makes its identity. Each member uses his turntable as an instrument, recreating in turn drums or bass guitars, scratching a riff of guitar or shearing the brass... to lead to a general harmony such as bands made up of instruments known as "traditional".

Members Kool Keith, Ced Gee, TR Love and Moe Love released their debut album Critical Beatdown, produced by Paul C., in 1988 and inspired the world of hip hop with their original sound of unorthodox sampling, polysyllabic rhymes, and bizarre lyrical imagery. Kool Keith went on to work with many other groups and solo projects including The Cenobites, Dr Octagon, Masters Of Illusion and Dr. Dooom Their work has been often sampled, most notably in The Prodigy song "Smack My Bitch Up"

Q-Bert (born 1969) is the performing name of Richard Quitevis, a Filipino-American (of Ilocano descent) DJ and music-writer. Living in San Francisco, he started playing with records at the age of 15 and was influenced by the street performers of San Francisco's hip-hop community in the mid 1980s. He started his musical career in a group called FM20 with Mix Master Mike and Apollo in 1990. They were playing a show in New York when Crazy Legs saw them and invited them to join the Rock Steady Crew.

DJ Babu

DJ Babu (born Chris Oroc) is a Filipino-American DJ and is a member of a crew of DJs called the Beat Junkies, a group which includes others such as Melo D, DJ Rhettmatic, and J-Rocc. DJ Babu introduced the title "Turntablist" in order to differentiate what he was doing (scratching vinyl records) from more conventional aspects of DJ-ing. He is a member of the hip-hop group Dilated Peoples, along with Rakaa and Evidence.

2 Live Crew

2 Live Crew is a controversial rap group, largely due to the sexual themes of one album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be (1989). The 2 Live Crew formed as three men in the Air-Force all became stationed in Riverside California in 1983. Inspired by Planet Rock and Pretty Tony records, they put the group together with the intentions of "sustaining the 808 kick drum". They recorded their first release in 1984 which became a staple of Luke Skywalker and The Ghetto Style DJ's in Miami.
