Namgar

Namgar (Buryat: Намгар) is a 4-piece music group that performs traditional Buryat and Mongolian music. Its leader Namgar Lhasaranova comes from the east borderland where three countries, Russia, Mongolia, and China meet. She inherited a rich singing tradition of the Buryat people who reside in Russian regions of Buryatia and Agin Buryat Region. The group necessarily comprises singing of Namgar Lhasaranova and instrumentalists from Mongolia. Instruments of the group include morin huur, chanza, traditional percussion, etc.

Amira Medunjanin is a singer from Bosnia & Herzegovina, who records as Amira. Coming from Sarajevo, she's a performer in the sevdah tradition. Amira was born at a time when the popularity of traditional music in the former Yugoslavia was at high tide, and sevdah held a special place for her. For her, sevdalinke were the most beautiful of songs. Amira’s fascination with the beauties of the oral tradition of Bosnia and Herzegovina led her to devote herself to creating a special artistic language, a language which was not subject to new musical fashions, or compromised to fit existing models.

In 1982 the Bollywood session musician CHARANJIT SINGH imported with much pain some of the latest synthesizer equipment into India. A good investment as Bollywood composers liked to feature the latest sound in their songs, and with these keyboards Singh spiced up numerous Bollywood recordings. But apart from that, in the late nightly hours after the studio recording were over, Singh set out on his own, wholly original project.

The CANZONIERE GRECANICO SALENTINO is the first folklore research group in Puglia. It has been active since 1975 and has always been present at musical events connected to folk. Since 1975 the band has promoted modern popular communication in the contemporary situation, without reviving past traditions, without searching for a lost identity; not a “nostalgic-archaeological” recovery but a process of independent expression.
