We Are Knights

We Are Knights are a new band hailing from France. They are a three-piece band comprising of Jean-Marc Battalier, Guilhem Hatt and Gaelle Malandrone. With every track they produce this band impress me whether it’s a stripped down slow track with a compelling beat or a pulsating electronic track with punching sounds. The band have recently been part of the album Kituné Parisien II with their track Tears featuring at track number nine on the reputable Kitsuné compilation. It is a very impressive track which is already one of my favourite synth tracks so far this year.

Artist Type:

Chateau Marmont

Four Frenchmen, childhood friends, united in their love of synth music: dare we say it’s a tale of mystery and imagination, of friendship and self-discovery? Chateau Marmont’s story is half Stand By Me, half Solaris, half Logan’s Run and, yes, it doesn’t add up. They’ve known each other since forever, as children stranded in a hostile landscape dominated by hypertrophied bullies and pathetic louts. They found themselves and each other through synthetic music, so bright and remote in its promises of infinity and eternal bliss, so hard, cold and disturbing when its outlook turns dystopian.

Desaparecidos

Desaparecidos was a short-lived American quintet formed in 2001 in Omaha, Nebraska, fronted by Conor Oberst (vocals, guitar) and featuring Denver Dalley, now of Statistics (guitar), Landon Hedges, now of Little Brazil (bass), Ian McElroy (keyboards), and Matt Baum (drums). This project however was restarted in 2010. Oberst may be better known for his confessional songwriting and storytelling as the lead singer of the popular indie folk band Bright Eyes, but Desaparecidos has a very different flavor.

Under the Radar

Under the Radar is the pseudonym used by Grammy-nominated artist Richard Souther, composer, producer, arranger, sound designer and multi-keyboardist. During the mid Eighties a new instrumental label, Meadowlark Records, signed Richard for his first solo albums, the electronic HEIRBORNE and INNERMISSION. The label also wanted to release his solo, acoustic piano recordings. To reduce confusion about dissimilar projects in the marketplace, the albums...SONGS UNSPOKEN and SECOND STORY, were issued under his middle names- Douglas Trowbridge.

There are at least two artist with name Makoto: 1. Based in Tokyo, Makoto Shimizu, better known as simply Makoto, is Japan's chief Drum & Bass ambassador. After completing an Acoustic Engineering major at Nippon University, Makoto first signed with LTJ Bukem's legendary Good Looking Records back in 1999.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength, releasing a long string of quality music in the form of singles and EP's, but also on the famous 'Earth' and 'Progression Sessions' compilation albums.

Julia Holter

Julia Shammas Holter is a classically-trained keytarist from Echo Park. After infiltrating Human Ear Music headquarters dressed as an intern, she wrote and recorded her own release on the label. Her music is witty, surreal and optimistic. She plays without sarcasm in the terrains that divide sentimentality, passion, and control. Her songs are written instinctively, and treated with an off-kilter fastidiousness, working orchestral variety from minimal instrumentation.
