There is more than one artist with this name: 1) Matthew L Nicholson is an Australian born musician/composer/sound artist/producer. His nomadic collusion with a geographically vast network of talented friends creates Function. Begun as an occasionally tended to solo venture in 1995, Function in recent years have relocated to being based between USA & Europe, touring and recording more regularly.

A DJ since 1996, he began on the same circuit of Detroit parties and clubs most have traveled, eventually establishing residencies at Ann Arbor’s Necto and Detroit’s prominent after-hour party spot, The Works.
Back in the late '80s, Melbourne's Andrew Curtis and Philip Samartzis collaborated in the aurally volatile project simply called Gum. With little expertise or training, the two gathered up what objects they were familiar with, in particular thrift store turntables and soiled records. His most recent full length, 'Station 55' has been described as "an album which will keep you awake at night in all the wrong ways".
