Krystle Warren

Seeing Krystle Warren perform for the first time is a striking experience. First, there is the utter improbability of it all: she shuffles onstage with little more than a low-key hello, and proceeds to sing with an effortless power that completely belies her tiny frame. Hearing her fill a crowded club without using a microphone … that’s a Voice. And then there are her vocal stylings, which feature a melisma as rich as that of Wonder or Hathaway, but put all of that technique at the service of music that has never heard such a thing – folk and country...

Viarosa

Viarosa's second full length release "Send for the Sea" is an eleven song 'noir opera' that more deeply reveals the mystical vision of UK vocalist-songwriter Richard Neuberg and his bandmate-companions over the past six years. They are experts in roiling guitars, bittersweet viola & screaming lap steel, among the usual rock instrumentation. Viarosa's ability to express themselves in unique ways both lovely & grotesque earned them the fandom of REM, which asked them to open for the mega-band in Dublin at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

Whole Schebang

A young band with five primary players scattered around East London making some d.i.y. folkpop music. Formed in late 2006 as a duo to explore open-mic night hotspots with guitars in hand, they have gone on to acquire a drummer, flugelhornist/flautist and bassist. What you can hear here is their recorded music to date - four collections of songs: 'A house and everything in it', 'Supermalt EP', 'Will it grow back? EP' and the latest offering 'Stranger Than The Weather'. The latter shows the band testing out their fullest sound yet and is replete with big harmonies and a string-section.

The Bony King of Nowhere

The Bony King of Nowhere is the project of 24-year-old composer Bram Vanparys from Ghent in Belgium. His honest music, characterized above all by Bram’s distinctive voice, claims your heart straight away. Songs are built on melodic backing vocals, guitars and sound layers, as well as the frequent use of unconventional percussion inspired by the Brazilian Tropicália Movement from the 1960s. His lyrics are often theatrical: the virgin Mary addressed by a dying man exalting death from his deathbed (“Maria”)...

Kan Mikami

Kan Mikami (三上寛) takes much of his inspiration from the school of singer/songwriters and blues vocalists. From the rural district of Tsugaru, Mikami's parched voice and plaintive electric guitar (sometimes the only backing) reveals the true spirit of the folkish sad blues, even though he sings in Japanese. Of course, comparisons to Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf are just as far from the truth as Bertolt Brecht or Jacques Brel, but the guitarist weaves elements of all three to create an undeniably unique style.
