Rose Royce

Rose Royce — the Los Angeles-based group comprised of Henry Garner (drums), Terral "Terry" Santiel (congas), Lequeint "Duke" Jobe (bass), Michael Moore (saxophone), Rose Norwalt (lead vocals), Kenny Copeland (trumpet, lead vocals), Kenji Brown (guitar, lead vocals), Freddie Dunn (trumpet), and Michael Nash (keyboards) — was actually formed by Copeland and Garner. Both were preparing for graduation from high school, and contemplating their careers. Joined by Dunn and Moore, the two decided to go the route of the music business under the name Total Concept Unlimited (and later as Magic Wand).

Central Line

Named after the underground train line which caters to certain areas of East London, and originally a sextet, the main protagonists were Linton Beckles who supplied vocals and percussion, keyboardist Lipson Francis, Camelle Hinds who played bass guitar and gave the group more vocals, and Henry Defoe who played lead guitar. Eventually, additional musicians helped to fill out the mix, as Peter Hinds appeared on this group and Beggar & Co.

Flying Pickets

The Flying Pickets is a British a cappella vocal group, that had a surprise number one hit in 1983 in the UK singles chart, with their cover of Yazoo's track Only You. The name 'Flying Pickets' refers to mobile strikers who travel in order to join a picket. The group of six was founded by Brian Hibbard in 1982 by a group of actors , the "7:84 Theatre group", a fringe theatre group who had sung a capella in their production of One Big Blow, based on the 1984 UK miners' strike.

The group was made of the two vocalists Lenka and Markéta and the rapper Paul Blond.

Melba Moore

Melba Hill, 29 October 1945, New York City, New York, USA. Based in New York, Melba Moore first attracted attention in the Broadway production of Hair. Although she has continued her thespian inclinations, winning an award for her performance in the musical Purlie, Moore has also forged a successful singing career. 'This Is It', a minor US hit, reached the UK Top 10 in 1976, and although her pop chart placings have since been inconsistent, Moore remained a fixture on the R&B lists over the following decade.
