Cryptopsy

Originating from the Montreal area, this group first appeared in 1992, when it was called Necrosis; in the same year it was reincarnated under the name of Cryptopsy. With just a demo called Ungentle Exhumation and then the album Blasphemy Made Flesh (1994), the group acquired a solid reputation on the international scene. Their release of None So Vile in 1996 was the first burst of brilliance in their career.

Les Jupes

Four kids from the middle of the North American continent making modern music for people living in the past. Debut album Modern Myths recorded with Arcade Fire/Stars/Little Scream producer Marcus Paquin. "...as epic as it is primal and as stirring as it is sad and introverted".
"...set to become one of Canada's most intriguing and complex acts."
"The swelling guitar riffs, hard drums and deep, menacing voice of Michael P Falk ensure an emotional, expressive album. An almost perfect record. One of the best debut records we’ve heard.”

Circlesquare

Some welcome news in a season that could certainly use some: Circlesquare is back. Circlesquare is Vancouver, British Columbia's Jeremy Shaw, now living in Berlin. Don't be surprised, though, if he doesn't sound like any of his citymates: for the length of his career, Circlesquare has never sounded quite like anyone but Circlesquare.
Last heard from over two years ago, Circlesquare set hearts racing with a set of records released between 1999 and 2006 on Trevor Jackson's Output label, home to a diverse roster of electronic outsiders like Black Strobe, DK7, and Colder.

The Johnsons

There are three bands called 'The Johnsons'. One is a UK based surf/punk/rock act who describe themselves as: "Dirty, dirty rock ‘n’ rollers from Basingstoke.
Always ready to make ya shake ya sleazy stuff and have ya dribbling, drooling and bleeding from every orifice."
The second one's a Skate/Punk Band from Champ City, Canada.
'Till today they released two LPs, including "Gypsies For Life" (2006) which was quickly winning over hearts of critics and fans everywhere'.

Royal Canoe

Royal Canoe is a group of musicians on a mission to construct ambitious, inventive music. The songs are thick with catchiness, rich in rhythm and are consistently pushing against the boundaries of pop music. They spend almost every day in a shit-hole rehearsal space writing hooks, singing through effects pedals, scrawling lyrics on scraps of paper, and constructing heavy beats in odd time signatures. They create samples by running conventional sounds through unconventional pieces of gear, drumming on bathtubs and garbage cans, listening to Big Boi and manipulating bits of old records.

Stephen Fearing

Born in Canada, but raised in Ireland for a large part of his life, Stephen Fearing's music is painted by a deep respect for his homeland, and told through deeply personal folk songs. Up until 2006 Fearing has released a total of seven albums, from 1988's 'Out to Sea', all the way up to the recent release, 'Yellowjacket'.
