Oceansize

Oceansize are a British band that combines emotional heavy rock with some progressive elements. They formed in 1998, and funded themselves through various jobs including writing music for arcade games and building/repairing helicopters. At the start of 2001 they were named 'Best Unsigned Band in Manchester' by the Manchester Evening News. The A Very Still Movement EP was released that August, and the band enjoyed support slots with the likes of Elbow, Lift to Experience, and The Cooper Temple Clause and in March 2002 were asked to open the BPI stage at the SxSW festival in Austin...

Codeine

American indie rock band formed in New York in 1989 by members Stephen Immerwahr (vocal, bass), Chris Brokaw (drums) and John Engle (guitar). Codeine pioneered the slowcore and sadcore subgenres of indie rock, but with a more experimental attitude than other bands in the genre, such as Low, Idaho and Red House Painters. The band's original tone, marked by slow tempos, Immerwahr's nasal and apathetic vocals, and Engle's ringing Telecaster, did not evolve much during their career.

Cougar

Cougar is an instrumental group formed in 2005 in Wisconsin, USA. They make music referred to, by themselves, as 'emergency rock'. The group's lush, dynamic arrangements fall somewhere between Four Tet, Tortoise, Fugazi and perhaps Nick Drake imagined as more expansively pensive than eerily morbid. What separates Cougar from the post-rock pack is their keen sensibility of (and attention to) form/texture, which seems more in line with sample-based music and experimental/modern classical than indie rock, hence the preference for new genres.

http://www.myspace.com/leighstokesmusic Leigh Mary Stokes, as a song on her soon to be released debut E.P. suggests, is Skint. And yet somehow, in just 6 months, Leigh and her band have managed to record BBC radio play listed songs, land a UK tour with a national booking agent and attract serious label interest; all for the price of a bus journey home. Almost. Leigh writes infectious, emotive indie pop. BBC6 introducing has said simply ' Wow!'
