Pauline Oliveros

Composer Pauline Oliveros is a maverick in the field of electronic music. Oliveros' first instrument was the accordion; as a teenager in Texas she played in a 100-piece accordion group that appeared at the rodeo. In 1949 she entered the University of Houston, but in 1952 transferred to San Francisco State College. Oliveros studied music privately with Robert Erickson and began to associate with a loose confederation of like-minded composers; Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Morton Subotnick among them.

the second hand marching band

The Second Hand Marching Band are a band of 22+ people from Scotland that play untraditional folk music. They are also members of another 20+ Scottish bands, such as Eagleowl, The Just Joans, Dananananaykroyd, How To Swim, The Lula Maes and The Martial Arts. The band came together in the autumn of 2007. Peter moved to Fife at the end of 2006 and, with lack of access to a car or pals, spent time writing some songs and buying old instruments.

The Warm (UK based) Formed in Southampton in September of 2003, The Warm are fiercely building a following throughout the U.K thanks to their dynamic live performances which showcase their emotive rock melodies and catchy pop hooks. Fans reaching as far as The U.S and Australia have given The Warm the incentive to keep on writing and performing, knowing their music is creating a positive international response.

Steve Riley

Steve Riley is an accordionist, singer, fiddler, record producer, member of the swamp pop group Lil’ Band ‘o’ Gold, and leader of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. Born in Mamou, Louisiana in 1969, Riley drew upon traditional Cajun close-knit family influences. He started singing at age three and playing the accordion at age seven, and at age fifteen Riley was performing in Dewey Balfa’s band.

Foxface

Foxface, from Glasgow, Scotland, were concieved by Michael Angus. Initially he played alone, though was joined by friends along the way. The release of the handmade 'Foxface EP' (featuring Andrew Smith of Laeto) in 2003 was the last release without a permanent line-up; by early 2004 Foxface was a three-piece made-up of Micheal, John (Who played with Michael Angus in Peeps Into Fairyland), and new addition Jenny. They have played with Sons & Daughters, King Creosote, Electric Magnolia Company, My Latest Novel and Idlewild, with whom they share a friendship both personal and professional.

Karen Tweed

Accordionist, born in London in 1963, has played with many bands, including Swåp, May Monday, The Poozies, and the Kathryn Tickell Band. Tweed is established as one of the finest exponents of the piano accordion and is also in demand for her work as an arranger, composer and tutor. Her music, which moves with ease between blistering melody lines and soulful backing, has been described as 'mercurial, subtle and astounding'.

Gabriel Yared

Gabriel Yared (Arabic: جبرائيل يارد) (born 7 October 1949) is a Lebanese-French composer, best known for his work in French and American cinema. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, his work in France included the scores for Betty Blue and Camille Claudel. He later began working with American film directors, winning an Oscar for his score for The English Patient and a nomination for The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain.
