Blanks

There have probably been dozens of punk bands called The Blanks or simply Blanks One of those bands put out the 7" single described at hyped2death.com: "BLANKS -Break Down (Void 560) Peterborough '79
The Blanks were briefly notorious for "Northern Ripper," based on the exploits of Peter Sutcliffe, the "Yorkshire Ripper" (although the supposed recording of his voice that leads off the song turned out to be a hoax). Meanwhile, "Breakdown" -one of the flipsides- is first-rate DIYpunk scrubbing.

Wake the president

Some people will tell you there are only two types of people in Glasgow: neds and art students. But listen to that false tale of two cities at your peril, because between the cracks in that hackneyed picture comes the sound of this city's latest purveyors of Scottish pop. The twins that front Wake the President were brought up on the hard-knock streets of Maryhill but earned their stripes knocking around the council libraries, drinking dens and underwear-strewn bedrooms of Glasgow's bohemian West End.

The Broken Family Band

The Broken Family Band rose from the ashes of ‘several crap indie bands and a pretty good post rock band’ in post-millennial Cambridge (i.e. around 2001). “The first nice thing outside our own little world was getting a call from John Peel on a Sunday morning saying he liked our first record. It was like a pat on the back from your favourite uncle,” says frontman Steven Adams. Their first mini-album The King Will Build A Disco appeared in 2002, to general bemusement and delight that East Anglia had produced its own leftfield Americana act.
