Goldierocks

OK So, first things first. Goldierocks. That's Sam Hall; DJ, presenter and party planner du-jour. Now most renowned for her energised DJ appearances, invading parties and aftershows all over the land - at some point in time, Sam's probably hijacked your fave indie/electro haunt. But she's much more than London's latest party-person, skilled DJing aside, Goldierocks is also growing her reputation as a respected producer, remixer, presenter and music journalist…just some of the highlights are outlined below.

Threepenny Bit

A young and vibrant addition to the folk scene, Threepenny Bit folk and ceilidh band was formed from an unlikely combination of student-types in Southampton in 2010. Consisting of suitcase percussion, fiddle, flute, guitar and clarinet, they play a wide range of Irish, English, Cornish, Breton and Scottish diddly-dee music with a hint of klezmer! Threepenny Bit set the trend for “Half Price Busking” in the Summer of 2010, when they embarked upon a busking campaign to spread folk music to the four corners of Southern England.

Blues 'n' Trouble

BLUES ‘N’ TROUBLE is a five-piece Scottish act formed in the early 80‘s by Tim Elliott & John Bruce. Constant personnel changes were to eventually lead to a permanent line-up, which encouraged the band to turn professional & saw the release of their debut album in 1985. During the next ten years Blues ‘n’ Trouble toured & guested with many blues greats including B.B. King, Robert Cray, Pinetop Perkins, Charlie Musselwhite, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells. Blues ‘n’ Trouble supported the likes of B.B. King and Robert Cray on their live dates in London.

Torridon

Torridon are a Scottish folk band from the Inverness area. They are growing in popularity playing gigs across Scotland, and even travelling abroad to keep the Tartan Army entertained whilst following the Scotland national team. Their debut album is called the Bog.

Drever, McCusker, Woomble

Roddy Woomble (13 August 1976) is the lead singer of Scottish rock band, Idlewild and a solo contemporary folk musician. To date, Woomble has released five full-length studio albums with Idlewild, and one critically acclaimied solo album, My Secret is My Silence. Woomble also curated the Ballads of the Book project, released in 2007. Woomble's next album, Before the Ruin, is due to be released on 15 September, 2008 and is a collaboration alongside Kris Drever and John McCusker.

Paolo Nutini

Paolo Nutini (born 9th January 1987) is a singer-songwriter from Paisley, Scotland. His father is of italian descent and his mother Glaswegian, although his father's family have been in Scotland for four generations. His influences include David Bowie, Damien Rice, Oasis, The Beatles, U2, Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. Nutini had no formal music training, and was expecting to follow his father into the family fish and chip shop business. He was first encouraged to sing by his music-loving grandfather and a teacher at his school who recognized his talent.

Calum Carlyle

Calum Carlyle is a singer/songwriter from Orkney, now based in Edinburgh. His stock in trade is edgy acoustic snapshots, however he is also known for more upbeat singalong numbers as well as many types of world and folk music. He used to be in a band called The Lapels, with Kris Drever and Neil Dixon, and he's now in a band called Neoviolet, as well as performing his own material.

Quickbeam are named after a type of tree (the Rowan family, green-geeks), a tree that apparently has positive influence over the negative and is sacred to those who worship it (in mythological language anyway). It seems a fitting moniker for this duo, Monika and Drew, from Glasgow and Aberdeen. They have performed at Glasgow

The Hermit Crabs

The Hermit Crabs are: Melanie Whittle (guitar and vocals); John Ferguson (lead guitar); Mark Waudby (bass guitar); Ali King (violin, keyboards, percussion); and David Murray (drums). They are from Glasgow, Scotland. The Hermit Crabs were formed in 2003 when Mel's band California Snow Story were on hiatus. After various lineup changes, they released their debut EP, 'Feel Good Factor', on Matinée Recordings in January 2007, followed by an album in October 2007, 'Saw You Dancing', which included performances by members of Teenage Fanclub and Camera Obscura.
