She has the intimate voice and acoustic guitar of Joni Mitchell. She's Stevie Nicks morphed with Loreena McKennitt. She's a little bit Celtic, a little bit Neil Young...and she plays violin with a Detroit edge. A multiple Detroit Music Award winner, Sarana started writing and playing at the age of 10 and was performing internationally at age 12. She's worked with many people including grammy award winners Don Was (everyone from Willie Nelson to Rolling Stones) & Steve King (Eminem), and producer Ben Grosse (Debbie Harry, B-52s).
Chi Limpiroj, (pronounced Chee Lim-Pie-Ro) was born on the 1st February 1991 in Manchester, United Kingdom. She started playing the violin at the age of 10, after religiously having recorder lessons at primary school, which was the start of her musicianship. As she grew older, she took an interest in the bass, and had lessons for a year or so before family problems cropped up and she never went back to her lessons.
K's Choice is a Belgian rock band from Antwerp. The band centers on siblings Sarah Bettens (lead vocals, guitar) and Gert Bettens (guitar, keyboard, vocals). They are joined by Eric Grossman (bass), Jan van Sichem Jr. (guitar) and Koen Liekens (drums). Their music can be described as guitar-based singer-songwriter rock or folk-rock. It ranges from very delicate and intimate singer-songwriter songs to songs that are stronger, more active and louder.
Seagull refers to two different bands, one based in the UK, the other in Melbourne, Australia. They are listed below in chronological order.
1. Seagull was formed in Manchester in 1999. It was the brainchild of two former members of the Finley Quaye band, Tom Greenwood and Jo Michell. Other members have included bassist Txarli Robles and drummer Bill Henry. The Seagull song Waiting For You was covered by Finley Quaye and appeared on his album Much More Than Much Love.
Freelance Whales found one another in late 2008, in Queens, amidst a strange amalgam of unfamiliar instruments, and precariously arranged pop songs. Using whatever musical gadgets they happened upon (mostly harmonium, banjo, glockenspiel, synthesizers, guitars, bass, drums, waterphone), the five members worked at crafting songs with interlocking rhythmic patterns, lush textural layering, and an engaged group-vocal energy.
Le Futur Pompiste, which released one marvelous album in 2004, Your Stories and Your Thoughts, before the vagaries of adult life scattered them far and wide; and Cats On Fire, whose debut long-player, 2007's The Province Complains, captivated all who were lucky enough to hear it (among them the writers at superlative U.K. magazine The Word). It was inevitable that this pair of bands, whose music shares a poise and sophistication rarely heard anywhere, never mind within the modest environs of Finland, would find each other.
Planes Over People (P.O.P) are essentially songwriters Jordan Daniel's, Michael King and Ben Gilchrist. Having formed just over 6 months ago have been busy writing new material for both sides of P.O.P, Acoustic and Electric. Expect a 4 track release later this year.
