The Ethical Debating Society

"The Ethical Debating Society" began as the psuedonym for Tegan, who began writing anti-love songs on her hooty piano, but quickly blossomed into a full band. With Lauren Darling accompanying Tegan on guitar and vocal duties, and Mr Chris Morris keeping time. The Ethical Debating Society now sound something like Sonic Youth covering Spice World on a found cassette tape.

Gwilym Simcock

Gwilym Simcock (born 24 February 1981) is a British jazz pianist and composer. Simcock has been rated as one of the most exciting musicians of his generation in the UK. Born in Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales, Simcock had a formal musical education that included stints at the Trinity College of Music (London), Chetham's School of Music (Manchester) – where he studied classical piano, French horn and composition - and the Royal Academy of Music (London), where he graduated from the jazz course with first class honours and the coveted 'Principal's Prize' for outstanding achievement.

See I Fagiolini & Robert Hollingworth . I Fagiolini is an ensemble of immaculate musicianship, specialising in Renaissance vocal music (though they also perform contemporary works). Their style is dramatic and exciting, bringing out the rich emotional span of Renaissance poetry and music (‘First-rate musical actors… quite gorgeous…’ American Record Guide). The Full Monteverdi, their film of Monteverdi madrigals using singers paired with actors is being shown on TV all over Europe.

Empirical is dedicated to developing its own style of contemporary jazz with a definite finger on the pulse of the contemporary world. As former members of Gary Crosby's Tomorrows Warriors these five musicians have been working and developing together for the last four years. Jay Phelps is a featured member of Dennis Rollins Badbone & Co and has worked with Andrew Hill, Courtney Pine, Nasheet Waits, Charlotte Church, Hugh Masakela, Soweto Kinch and Jazz Jamaica.

Ian Shaw

Ian Shaw is a Welsh jazz singer, record producer, and former stand up comedian. He has recorded and performed several times with Claire Martin, and appeared with her on the BBC Radio 2 show Big Band Special, a show that he has also presented. He also presents a jazz show on BBC South with Charlie Crocker. Shaw performed in Jerry Springer: The Opera in 2002, Richard Thomas created the part of the warm-up man/devil for Shaw. He won Best Jazz Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2004
