BTR began following a chance meeting in the sandwich section of Marks & Sparks. A short time later, they recorded a new demo at Blueprint Studios, supported Midnight Juggernauts / Hatcham Social / The Rushes / Das Wanderlust/ The Chapman Family / Leon & joined forces with Lazy Genius Management. The band’s distinctive music is centred on a unique combination of trans-Atlantic 80s indie guitar, rhythmical aggression and lyrical charm; inspired by personal tales of hometown apathy and drunken arguments.

Charles De Goal

Initially a solo project formed by Patrick Blain shortly after the 1979 break-up of his earlier band C.O.M.A (often compared to Devo), Charles De Goal were first signed to emerging record label New Rose, the now notorious independent giant of 1980's France, and released debut album 'Algorythmes' in 1980. Their music could be described as a collection of minimal synth, punk/post-punk, experimental/avant garde pop and new wave - usually polished with a dark edge, leading the band to be placed on the borders of the Nouvelle Vague scene

Siiiii

Siiiii were born in early 1983 when singer Paul, then only 19, moved from his native East Anglia to Sheffield purely to be in the band, joining guitarist Mark, and bassist Ange. Taking their name from William Burroughs' "The Soft Machine" they gigged extensively during the early to mid 1980's and possibly hold the record for the amount of times they were nearly signed to record labels. Siiiii disbanded in 1986 and the members went their separate ways. Mark went on to play with the Anti-Group and Paul became involved in The Niceville Tampa (now Niceville) and then DVO in South Wales.

Minny Pops

The creative anchor to Minny Pops was Wally Van Middendorp, a key figure in Amsterdam's underground Ultra art movement, and founder of the Plurex label in early 1978. His first single, as Tits, coupled "We're Glad Elvis Is Dead" with "Daddy Is My Pusher" (PLUREX 001), and was a fairly typical new wave record, though darkly humorous. In September Minny Pops were formed as a predominantly electronic band, taking their name from a primitive Korg rhythm box named Mini Pops, and having something in common with Suicide, The Normal and Human League.

Fear Of Comedy

Fear of Comedy can be likened to the outlaw, who steps menacingly through the doors of the saloon to the awed silence and stares of its patrons, who are not sure who he is or what he's doing, but are certain he's about to cause trouble. "The aim of Fear of Comedy is to take over the world" – Laith Tyranny, vocals. Not content with what God has created Fear of Comedy toil and experiment to gestate their own musical hybrids which are at once strange and infectious.
