Sludge

Sextodecimo

Sextodecimo formed in Oxford, UK, 2001. They play heavy, noisy, slow, feedback-laden rock music. Gigs are sporadic and rare, but their consistency in creating such a "bloody racket" on stage gained them notoriety on the local underground scene, and firmly established them as one of the most uncompromising bands to arise from the city of Oxford. Having said this, their recorded output reflects an earlier and more restrained (and indeed orthodox) style of music which has long since disappeared from their live shows.

OM

Om is the name of three separate projects: 1) A psychedelic rock/metal duo from San Francisco, CA formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the disbanded stoner-doom metal band Sleep. The band's first three albums feature Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums. Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan chanting and is rich in rhythm and melody. Their music and lyrics lift off at the beginning and slowly mutate giving a feeling of evolution inside each song.

Lento

Lento is an instrumental collective based in Rome, Italy.
The former members joined in 2004 as a quartet and started working out a sort of introspective and implosive approach, taking their cue from a wide range of influences including seminal bands such as Neurosis, Earth and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. After a short time break, in late 2005, Lento expanded into a five piece act, and began structuring the basement of a more elaborate mood. Incorporating elements of ambient, doom and hardcore, lento has created a perfect opposition between sludge heavy riffs and ambient psychedelic suites.

Fangs of a TV Evangelist

Commercially ignorant Power Trio, even a "supergroup" (is that term still cool?). Based out of Melbourne featuring Jace (Pigman Vampire/Bikini Eyebolt/etc.) on Guitar/Vox, Mikey (Brain resin) on Bass and Jem (Fire Witch/Inappropriate Tough Guy behaviour etc.) on Drums. With each new album comes a name change and more confusion.
Criminally ignored band with a high output of great music.

Artist Type:

Melvins

The Melvins are an American sludge metal band formed in Montesano, Washington in 1982. Their dark, heavy, oppressively slow sound made them innovators of genres like sludge, grunge and doom metal. The Melvins' music is influenced by Black Flag's My War-era hardcore punk and Black Sabbath-style heavy metal, but their idiosyncratic approach, bizarre sense of humor, and experimentation make neat categorization difficult.

MED

There are at least two artists with this name. 1) M.E.D. aka Medaphoar is a MC who has recorded with Madlib, Wildchild, and Oh No. M.E.D's debut album was released on Stones Throw Records in 2005. Entitled Push Comes To Shove, the album features production from Madlib, J Dilla, Oh No (Madlib's younger brother), and Just Blaze. A CD entitled "Bang Ya Head" was released during Stones Throw's 2005 Tour and features M.E.D (known as Medaphoar) guest spots from 1998 to 2005.
M.E.D. made a dis track toward Canibus called "Lightwork."

Amenra

Amenra is a progressive / sludge / post-metal band formed 2003 in Kortrijk, West-Flanders, Belgium. Amenra delivers dark, heavy and sludgy post-hardcore in the vein of Cult of Luna, Isis and Neurosis. It is intense, noisy, gloomy, and darkly atmospheric. It is rich with textured riffs, thunderous low tones, high impact percussion and cutthroat vocals injected with a dose of religious iconography. And it all coalesces into a beautiful, pitch black collection of overwhelming sound.
