Papermoons

Houston duo Matt Clark and Daniel Hawkins are Papermoons and I’m sure they wouldn’t mind being referred to as beautiful, winsome, front-porch folk rock. It’s the stuff of reflective midnight drives or lazy summer afternoons collapsing under the inevitable weight of dusk. The band’s debut four-song 7” (featuring artwork by jacob calle) was released July 1st on Team Science Records. The record has since been met with critical acclaim.

Artist Type:

Andi Neate

Andi Neate has been described as “angel-voiced” and “street tough” and compared with Suzanne Vega, Ani Difranco and the Cranberries. Her appearance is a mixture of confidence and vulnerability - from the trademark tattoos writhing round her right arm to the tumbling mass of dark hair to her sometimes stocking soles when performing. Her childhood on a remote west coast island encouraged her natural affinity with nature, and the strong sense of independence which led her to building her own house – brick by brick - and which has taken her and her music to far corners of the world.

Les Jupes

Four kids from the middle of the North American continent making modern music for people living in the past. Debut album Modern Myths recorded with Arcade Fire/Stars/Little Scream producer Marcus Paquin. "...as epic as it is primal and as stirring as it is sad and introverted".
"...set to become one of Canada's most intriguing and complex acts."
"The swelling guitar riffs, hard drums and deep, menacing voice of Michael P Falk ensure an emotional, expressive album. An almost perfect record. One of the best debut records we’ve heard.”

Royal Wood

Beginning on the piano at the age of four, Royal Wood became a multi-instrumentalist by his early teens. In fact, any instrument he could get his hands on was explored and devoured. His school's music program had a sign-out policy for any instrument smaller than the tympani - and they all found their way home to his bedroom. Even the drums came home for the summer months. 'Self-taught one-man musical master and Toronto native Royal Wood's third album is set for release Jan.

Artist Type:

Emily Barker

Emily hails from the quiet Blackwood Valley, where lies a town called Bridgetown. It's in the South West of Western Australia. As a teenager she was known to sing heavy metal and soul covers at highschool assemblies (it was a compromise with the bogan boys in the band: she would sing heavy metal, in return for them playing soul. Fair enough she thought.) Emily's love of music spilt beyond her schooling years and across the seas to the UK.

Lilium

"Lilium" (meant to mean "fortress") started as a solo-project of Pascal Humbert, 16 Horsepower's bass player. Lilium now is a duo-project after 16 Horsepower drummer Jean-Yves Tola joined Humbert. As a double act they have so far released one album, "Short Stories", which came out in 2003. Humbert worked on "Transmission Of All The Good-Byes" from 1984 until 2000. The album was released at the end of October 2000 on Glitterhouse Records.
