The Cave Singers

The Cave Singers are Seattle folk trio Pete Quirk (vocals, guitar, melodica, harmonia), Derek Fudesco (guitar, bass pedals), and Marty Lund (drums, guitar). Reminiscent of a more earnest Will Oldham, a tempered Animal Collective, or a whimsical Mountain Goats, their music is surprising yet cozy, sparse yet harmonious, pleasing yet torturous. Invitation Songs, the first full length album is to be released on September 26th 2007, on Matador Records.

Doghouse Roses

Guitarist Paul Tasker & singer Iona Macdonald formed Doghouse Roses in late 2005 after one too many nights listening to old music whilst drinking red wine. They soon developed a sound that lies in the spaces between Pentangle and Fairport Convention, with a nod to Gillian Welch on the way. Doghouse Roses have released two EPs to date and their full length debut, “How’ve You Been (All This Time)?” was released on the 6th of October, and preceded by a single, “Greener the Grass / Years”, in May.

Count To Fire

There are plenty of British bands around who have tried to take inspiration from the intimacy and expansive sound of Americana, but end up losing their own identity in the process. Not so Count To Fire. The Exeter band, who released their debut album Songs That Remind Me Of You in 2008, quickly outgrew their American influences to establish themselves as one of the most engaging groups in the UK.

Rachel Harrington

Reared among the Pentecostal pines of Oregon, Rachel Harrington has been doing things in the wrong order for quite some time. She'd had extensive radio play before performing her live show, and she was opening for Grammy winners and nominees before releasing her first record. Now, hot on the heels of her critically acclaimed 2007 debut, The Bootlegger's Daughter, Rachel presents CITY OF REFUGE. Her backing band on the recording is TIM O'BRIEN (fiddle), Mike Grigoni (dobro), Zak Borden (mandolin), and Jon Hamar (upright), with Holly O'Reilly and Pieta Brown on backing vocals.

The Whybirds

The Whybirds represent a distillation of the best of rock music from the last four decades... Imagine the vocal harmonies of the Byrds and the Band, the songcraft of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Steve Earle and the sonic attack of the Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam, and you're getting close to the stirring, uplifting sound of The Whybirds.
All four members of the band are singer/songwriters – giving the group a diverse range of songs and vocal styles – but without straying from The Whybirds' sanguine brand of rock 'n' roll.
