Peter Knight

Peter Knight (b 1947) is a folk musician, member of the electric folk group Steeleye Span. Peter Knight was born in London on 27 May 1947. As a child he learned the violin and mandolin before going to the Royal Academy of Music from 1960 to 1964. The recordings of the Irish fiddler Michael Coleman inspired him to take part in Irish pub sessions. He teamed up with guitarist and singer Bob Johnson until 1970 when he joined Steeleye Span. The parting was short-lived, as Bob Johnson himself also joined Steeleye Span in 1972.

Shirley Collins

Shirley Collins and her sister, Dolly, grew up in the Hastings area of East Sussex in a family which kept alive a great love of traditional song. Songs learnt from their grandfather and from their mother's sister, Grace Winborn, were to be important in the sisters' repertoire throughout their career. On leaving school, at the age of 17, Shirley Collins enrolled at a teachers' training college in Tooting, south London.

Eliza Carthy

Eliza Carthy born August 23, 1975. Daughter of legendary English folk musicians singer/guitarist Martin Carthy and singer Norma Waterson. Eliza is an accomplished folk musician herself, both singing and playing fiddle. She formed the Waterdaughters with her mother, aunt (Lal Waterson) and cousin Maria Knight in 1989. She has subsequently worked with Nancy Kerr, and also with her parents as Waterson:Carthy, in addition to her own solo work. She has twice been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for UK album of the year: in 1998 for Red Rice, and again in 2003 for Anglicana.

Threepenny Bit

A young and vibrant addition to the folk scene, Threepenny Bit folk and ceilidh band was formed from an unlikely combination of student-types in Southampton in 2010. Consisting of suitcase percussion, fiddle, flute, guitar and clarinet, they play a wide range of Irish, English, Cornish, Breton and Scottish diddly-dee music with a hint of klezmer! Threepenny Bit set the trend for “Half Price Busking” in the Summer of 2010, when they embarked upon a busking campaign to spread folk music to the four corners of Southern England.

Methera

Methera are: Miranda Rutter, Lucy Deakin, John Dipper and
Emma Reid. A string quartet drawing their material and inspiration from both traditional and contemporary sources. Best seen in intimate surroundings they are as endearing to watch as they are entertaining to listen to. They are excellent musicians and talented composers and arrangers and improvisation adds a huge enjoyment to their live sets.

Dave Swarbrick

Dave Swarbrick (born 5 April 1941) is an English folk musician. He plays violin, viola, mandolin, and guitar. He was born in New Malden, Surrey and grew up in Birmingham. He learnt the rudiments of the violin from a local fiddler and attended the Birmingham College of Art (now the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design) in the late 1950s. Playing guitar, he joined Beryl Marriot's Ceilidh Band in Birmingham. Beryl encouraged him to take up the fiddle again.

Linda Thompson

Linda Thompson (born Linda Pettifer) started her singing career in the 1960s, doing advertising jingles for money and singing in folk clubs for enjoyment. She changed her name to Linda Peters, and was romantically linked to Martin Carthy before working with Richard Thompson, whom she married in 1972. As part of Richard & Linda Thompson she sang on a string of critically acclaimed albums until a bitter split in 1982.

Spiers & Boden

Spiers and Boden are an English folk duo. John Spiers plays melodeon, concertina and other squeezeboxes, while Boden plays fiddle, sings, and stamps out the rhythm on a piece of board. They began playing together in 1999 and their first album as a duo was Through and Through (2001). In 2002 they were both session musicians on Eliza Carthy's album Anglicana, and toured with her as part of her band The Ratcatchers.
