Valerie June

If Valerie June had been a roots artist in America 80 years ago, and she often sings as if she was, she might have been a principle influence on today's myriad retro troubadours, hers a stunningly emotive amalgamation of blues, folk, gospel, soul, Appalachian and bluegrass (including irresistible banjo). She exists, however, today, an artist as modern as an iPod Shuffle, a musician for the generation which carries the entire history of recorded music so casually inside its phone.

Boogarins

Excellent 60s summertime vibes from this Brazilian psychedelic foursome. This one came out of absolutely nowhere, and is easily one of the better submissions to appear in our inbox recently. Although As Plantas Que Curam doesn't boast the same squeaky clean studio recording quality as Tame Impala/Foxygen/Jacco Gardner's most recent records, this debut EP will certainly catch the attention of those who've been loving those records. There's also something about their sound that instantly transported me back to when I heard Dungen for the first time almost 10 years ago.

Hundred Waters

Hundred Waters is a band formed of fate. Having been dear friends since childhood with musical releases under many different names, Hundred Waters is the butterfly hatched from those extensive past endeavors. The music transcends genres, mixing electronic, acoustic, and classical forms into a cohesive landscape that carries the listener through a series of unfamiliar sounds and sonic permutations. They have recently been signed to Skrillex's label OWSLA.
