Bushplant

On the go since 1990, Bushplant have long been County Clare's best-kept secret. Perhaps the last of the great Irish folk-rock bands, they are hitting the road now to show the rest of the world what it's been missing. The first free track here "Make Somebody Happy Here", is a pounding beast of a thing, a bastard offspring such as might occur after an illicit encounter between Alabama3 and S-Express at a Clare Fleadh, a mutant fostered by Hawkwind and all the while delicately embroidered with the silvery fiddling of Mary Custy, a star in her own right with 3 solo albums of her own.

The Popes

The Popes were originally assembled by Shane MacGowan (of the Pogues) after he either quit (his version) or was booted (the band's version) from the Pogues. Although they began life as Shane's backing band, Shane's somewhat "erratic" behavior gave them the incentive and the room to branch out on their own a bit. They have released one studio cd, "Holloway Boulevard," on Snapper records, and a live set coupled with the studio set, also on Snapper Records. With Shane back touring with the Pogues, it's unclear whether the Popes will continue on their own or go their separate ways.
