The Anthologists

Compulsory listening for those who like their jazz 'on the rocks'. The Anthologists play a unique blend of film themes, jazz standards, originals, mashups - even drawing on electronica for inspiration - presented in a classic 4 piece combo. Rich Hammond, pianos, overlaid melodious and versatile guitar work over a rock solid rhythm section, this band is both entertaining and challenging to the memory banks - at times you'll know the tunes, others you're just not quite sure...

JAZZ CLUB NIGHT AT THE WILMINGTON ARMS

A new monthly jazz night is being launched at the Wilmington Arms on Exmouth Market on Thursday 23rd June.

The club night, sponsored by Musicosity, will focus on modern and contemporary jazz. Taking its lead from New York’s 55 Bar, Denver’s Dazzle Lounge, and California’s Charlie O’s, it will bring the hottest new acts on London’s jazz circuit to this central location, right in the heart of Clerkenwell.

Headliners for the opening night are the genre-defying quartet The Anthologists, who will bring their distinctive fusion of film soundtracks, jazz standards and classic rock melodies to the venue. The quartet includes guitarist Justin Bryant, a familiar name to all who frequent musicians forums, where he is regularly alluded to as one of the most exciting guitar players currently working in London.

The Anthologists’ drummer, John Baker, said that: “The London jazz scene is currently the most vibrant it has been for many years. This new club night adds to the exciting mixture of heady rhythms and superb musicianship that can be found in the capital right now”.

Supporting the Anthologists are Sapo Modern Jazz Band, a five piece troupe hailing from South London, performing a mix of jazz, latin, and soul groove originals. The horn section will also join the Anthologists later in their set.

The club night is also trying to be the most economic jazz venue in London too, with entry at just £4.
