Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a rock band formed in New York City in the late summer of 2000. The band consists of Karen Orzolek (vocals), Nick Zinner (guitar) and Brian Chase (drums). Their best known songs include "Maps", "Date with the Night", "Gold Lion" and "Zero". Their music melds genres ranging from new wave to art punk and garage rock using heavy guitars, synthetic sounds, and screaming, erotic, bluesy vocals. Karen O is known for her energetic, animated stage presence, complemented by her outrageously colorful costumes designed especially for her by friend Christian Joy.

Buke and Gass

Buke and Gass consists of Arone Dyer (buke and voice) and Aron Sanchez (drums and gass). As far as the name lingo, the buke is “a self-modified six string baritone ukelele” and the gass is “a guitar-bass hybrid.” They both handle all sorts of foot percussion also. Buke and Gass take great care of their sound, both in the delivery of their performance and tone of their unusual homemade instrumentation.

Mission of Burma

Mission of Burma is an American post-punk band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1979. The band was formed by Roger Miller (guitar), Clint Conley (bass), Peter Prescott (drums) and Martin Swope (tape manipulator/sound engineer). Miller, Conley and Prescott share singing and songwriting duties. Like many of their post-punk contemporaries, Mission of Burma's efforts are largely concerned with extending punk's original vocabulary without losing its essential rebellious spirit.

Pollyester

POLLYester, founded in 2007, is a disco-wave duo from Munich. Polly Ester aka Polly Lapkovskaja (bass, vocals) is a musician at the Munich Chamber Theater, a member of the bands Kamerakino, The MiSHIMA and Convertible, and organizer of various club events (ZOMBOCOMBO; koshka valerianka). Drummer Yossarian (also vocals) alias Manuel da Coll has studied music and is also a member of LaBrassBanda. Together they play a sort of Dada-Funk with heavy bass and erratic vocals, influenced by and bands like Maximum Joy and ESG.

Cities On Fire

Inspired by the old downtown scene (punks, CBGBs, gratuitous sex with strangers), and the new downtown scene (hipsters, cocaine, gratuitous sex with strangers), these guys deliver catchy rock songs that'll pump non-stop energy into weak veins. Their lead singer also features in the bands Rockets And Cars and The Bowery Riots.

Bearhug

(1) bearhug is a brazilian experimental/lo-fi act formed in 2004. His first ep (Birds) was released in January, 2009. He hopes that other bands called "Bearhug" get together to form the Mystic Big Bear of Magic Mountain to combat the evil Dr. Zibuow. (2) Bearhug was formed in the winter of 2008 in Chandler, Arizona and consists of friends Jon Hubbell, Jeremy Lilly and Austin Scates. (3)Bearhug is an indie rock group that was formed in 2007 in Sydney, Australia under the name Skeletal Explosive.

M. Ward

Stage name of Portland, Oregon based singer-songwriter Matt Ward. Ward was previously with the band Rodriguez, who released the album Swing Like a Metronome in 2000. Duet for Guitars #2 was released by Howe Gelb on his Ow Om record label. Ward's 2001 album, End of Amnesia, was put out by Future Farmer Records and his subsequent albums have been released on Merge Records. A collection of live recordings, Live Music & The Voices Of Strangers, was a self-released disc that was sold at his shows.

Kelley Stoltz

Multi-instrumentalist Kelley Stoltz grew up in the Detroit area, but eventually found his way to San Francisco after taking a detour to New York City, where he worked in the mailroom at Jeff Buckley's management company. Armed with a four-track recorder and tons of great ideas, Stoltz began recording his own songs, performing all the parts himself. These songs caught the ear of Monte Vallier, who helped Stoltz clean up and sweeten the recordings for release as The Past Was Faster on The Telegraph Company.
